Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful break with the opportunity to relax and spend time with family and friends.

In Language Arts today the students spent time reviewing our classroom rules and expectations.  We discussed that our first priority at school is to learn and what that looks like in a classroom.

We started a new unit today focusing on Figurative Language. Today we talked about similes and metaphors. We also looked at examples from songs, tv shows, and commercials. I have attached some examples we looked at to this blog post. We will continue to talk about other types of figurative language throughout the course of the week.

The class also spent time reviewing the story we read before break, “All Summer in a Day”. Since the story ended in a cliffhanger, the students are being asked to write a new resolution for the story. We began brainstorming ideas during class today. If the students did not finish brainstorming during class, it was assigned as homework.

The end of 2nd Marking is getting close!  We will officially be half way through the school year next Friday. Time is flying! All late work for the marking period is due on Friday.  I am encouraging students to check their student connect and look for assignments that are missing or incomplete.  They have until Friday to turn in those assignments and I will not take points off for late work.  I am working really hard to teach the students about advocating for their learning and being responsible for their assignments.  Please encourage the children to ask me questions about the homework or to let me know if they go back and make up an assignment.

Have a great evening!
