Today in Language Arts the students began learning about Greek and Latin Root Words. We will be learning two works a week. If students would like to learn a third word, they can spend time doing this during Daily 5. Learning an extra word each week is a wonderful opportunity for extra credit.
The students also began writing their Compare and Contrast Essay today. We started by identifying a poem that has a theme that is the same as our theme project story. The students were asked to complete the similarities of the theme between the poem and the story by the end of class. If they did not finish, it was homework. We will work on the differences tomorrow. This does not need to be done for homework.
We will be having our next test on Monday. The test will focus on theme, making connections, “The Good Deed”, poetry, the story they choose for their theme project, prefixes, suffixes, and root words. The students will be able to use their literature book on the test.
Parent Teacher Conferences are today at 3:30. Since Ms. Jones and Mr. Peterson are on two teams, they will be meeting with families together. Ms. Taha and I will be meeting in her room together as well (room 41). If you plan to attend, please bring your child with you. We will be meeting with families individually so there may be a wait tonight to meet with teachers.
Have a wonderful Wednesday! (Alliteration)
