Today in Language Arts the students continued to learn about theme.  We read the poem, “Message from a Caterpillar” and the short story, “Ant and Grasshopper”. Then, we practiced identifying the theme for both.  We practiced writing a CER response together using “Message from a Caterpillar” and we wrote one for “Ant and Grasshopper” independently.  If the CER response for “Ant and Grasshopper” was not finished by the end of class it is homework that is due tomorrow.

The students also started working on a project in class today.  I have added the checklist for this project to the rubric.  They students were given a preview of short stories to choose from.  They were given time in class today and will be given all of class tomorrow to work on this project.  They are required to read the story they chose and create a presentation that will be due on Monday.  This presentation must include key vocabulary from the story, figurative language, a summary of what they read, and a CER on the theme. This presentation will be done on Slide through their gmail accounts.  They are also working in a group to complete this assignment.  We will be presenting on Monday.

One-Pager Number Six was also given to the students.  I have attached the directions to this blog post too.  One-Pagers Five and Six are both due on Thursday, March 29th which is the last day of the marking period.

Don’t forget tomorrow is game day!  The students will go directly to their core classes at the beginning of the day and we will spend the last hour of school playing games in our Advisory.  This is a PBIS reward.

Have a great evening!
