Dear families,
I hope this weekend allowed you to get some time in to relax and be together. Hopefully this message is also finding you as healthy and safe as possible. I miss all of my students very much and hope that they are doing well, especially under these very different circumstances.
As you know, today starts our second week of remote learning. I hope that week one allowed students and parents to get settled in at home and begin becoming familiar with Google Classroom, IXL, and the other learning opportunities and resources. Remember, I realize a whole lot of change has happened very quickly for most of us, so if you feel behind or haven’t had a chance to get started, it’s definitely not too late to jump on our new learning adventure.
I am also going to attach the post that I included in Google Classroom this morning for the students for this week to help get their week started and guide them into being on track (or of course, as close to track that they are able to get, considering so many additional schedules and circumstances). Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I hope you have a nice Monday.
Good morning to all of my boys and girls!
I hope all of you and your families are doing well and feeling healthy. I also hope that each and everyone of you had a nice and easy going weekend. If you would like to tell me about your weekend, please send me an e-mail.
Hopefully by now, each of you have had an opportunity to explore our Google Classroom. Again, this is the platform that we will be using to continue guiding you into our remote learning. Please always remember to try your best on each assignment. Don’t forget to try checking our Google Classroom daily (or as often as you are able to), as new assignments will be posted as we go through this process. If you are just getting started or not quite finished with last week’s work, please complete all of the first week’s assignments fully (Week 1 – Week of 3-15-20) and then move into this week (Week 2 – Week of 3-22-20). Some things need to be completed and submitted right in this platform, while others will require you to log in to other learning sites, such as IXL or Zearn. Don’t forget, each log in and password for IXL are posted on our classroom blog from last week. When you are working on lessons/assignments, in IXL, or on Zearn, please carefully follow the order of the lessons described in each Google Classroom assignment to help get the most meaning and reinforcement out of each lesson.
If you have extra time or finish early, you can use some of the other wonderful resources to help reinforce and enhance your learning. These are not the only ones (**Remember, the front of your planner should have your log in information for some of the additional platforms that require them, such as: Zearn, Prodigy, and Epic), but you can use:
– Zearn (this is currently suggested as part of your continued individual practice continuing where you are through the end of Module 3 (for right now – this will be extended as we go and depending on the amount of time we will be out of the building)).
-Prodigy (math practice)
-MobyMax – you must log in through Clever from the student portal page (reading, ELA, and math practice)
-Epic (reading practice)
-Read Theory (informational reading practice)
-StoryOnline (great selection of books)
Also, it is still important for you to complete your daily reading minutes from your book bag (Good-Fit books). Since we will be out of school for some time, if you finish all of the books in your bag and have carefully reread them, please be sure to use the additional reading resources that will help you gain access to more books. It’s also just as important to keep practicing and memorizing your math facts! You can do this through the assigned IXL fact practice, MobyMax – fact fluency, on the sprints in Zearn, using mathfactcafe.com, or coming up with another way to practice, repeat, improve, and memorize all of your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
Stay safe, soak in time with your family, continue to learn lots, and take breaks for physical activity and exercise!
