Meal Distribution Schedule Changes For Memorial Day

Dearborn Public Schools families are reminded that the meal distribution schedule will have a few changes starting the week of May 18 – the week before Memorial Day.

Because schools were scheduled to be closed on Friday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend, there will be no food distribution on May 22 and 25.

Meal distributions will still occur on Monday May 18 and on Wednesday May 20.  The May 20 distribution will include breakfasts and lunches for a full week, so families should be prepared to carry the larger quantity, including a half gallon of milk per student.

Through May 20 pickup times will continue to be later at four locations. Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary will distribute meals from noon to 2 p.m.

Dearborn Public Schools has been providing 65,000 grab-and-go meals a week for our students.

The grab-and-go meals are provided free to families through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch Program. Through the program, Dearborn Public Schools offered free lunch and breakfast to all kindergarten to 12th grade students before schools were closed to slow the spread of novel coronavirus.

Meal distribution schedule: May 11, 13, 15, 18 and 20

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at Dearborn High School, Edsel Ford High School and Smith Middle School and from noon to 2 p.m. at Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary.

NO DISTRIBUTIONS MAY 22 AND 25

May 27 and 29 and June 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at all seven locations.

8th Grade ELA Week of 5/11-5/15

TL;DR: Use your own words for the Google Doc assignments and watch the videos for the lesson every week!

Hello Dearest Friends,

This week, we have created a PowerPoint with all of the links embedded into the PowerPoint by day. You can watch the videos and locate links for the readings, help desk, etc. within the PPT. If clicking on them does not work, please highlight the link, copy it, and paste it into a web browser.

We are posting work on Sunday and also extending the due time to midnight due to Ramadan! This should alleviate some of the work load for those of you who are celebrating and leave enough time for you to submit your work on time. Please make sure you are completing BOTH assignments each week, as a number of students only did one or the other last week.

Watch the videos each week! More and more students are doing poorly on the written component because you have not watched the lesson videos. This week, one of the videos goes into very specific detail about what type of writing we expect and we lessened the writing to one question. Since you only have one question, we expect very high quality work! We also expect you to use your own words. Any student with a high percentage of commonalities will be asked to redo the assignment and it will be marked missing until it is redone. We will also call home and inform Mr. Rummel. You are intelligent enough to do your own work, so take the time to complete your work properly!

Please use the Help Desk Form (link found in PPT) or email us with questions or just to tell us your favorite part of the book!

We miss you all so dearly,
Ms. Timpf and Ms. Schafer

8th ELA Week of 4/27-5/1

Due: May 1The Outsiders Chapters 5 & 6 Week of April 20th to the 24th (Ms. Schafer’s Group): You have TWO assignments each week. Please make sure you are doing BOTH the Google Form, located below the instructions, and the Google Doc, located to the right of the instructions. We are also posting work early and extending the “Due Time” until midnight during Ramadan, but will still be emailing between 6-7pm for those students who have not submitted work.

Hello Dearest Friends,

You have two videos this week, one is a lesson about descriptive language and the other talks about the poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” When understanding this poem, I encourage you to email me or even do some research on your own to help understand the theme of the poem as it relates to Ponyboy and Johnny.

This week, we have created a PowerPoint with all of the links embedded into the PowerPoint by day. You can watch the videos and locate links for the readings, help desk, etc. within the PPT. If clicking on them does not work, please highlight the link, copy it, and paste it into a web browser.

Change Password

Greetings Vikings!

I hope you are all staying safe, healthy and engaged in remote learning. Your teachers and I miss you tremendously and can’t wait to get back to school to see you all.

I’m sending this out because it has come to our attention that some students may have shared passwords with friends. I want to remind you that you are responsible for protecting your account by having a “strong” password and keeping your password private/not sharing your information with ANYONE. Anything sent from your account is your responsibility.
I’m asking that you take a moment to change your password – especially if it is easy for others to guess or if it’s been shared. Please read below, follow the step by step directions and change your password now.
Let me or any of your teachers know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you and stay safe!
Principal Jebril

———————————————-

Keeping you password just to yourself is your responsibility. You are responsible for anything that happens with your account. You should go to https://dearbornschools.org, then click on the Student Portal, then Change District Password. Your new passphrase must be at least 10 characters long (but can be longer). Although your passphrase must be memorable (you are responsible for remembering it), it should not be easy to guess. Here are some tips to creating a memorable, secure passphrase:

  • Make your passphrase nonsensical.
    • Use a variety of random words (at least 4 words)
    • Memorize a sentence or two and use the first character of each word.
  • Never use obvious personal information (do not use your birthday, a pet’s name, the street that you live on, etc.)
  • Never reuse passwords.

You should NEVER share your passphrase.

Remember, your password is the key to data and privileges. These are extremely valuable and must be protected.

Remote Learning Calendars Week of 4/27-5/1

Hello Friends,

Per our newly approved Continuity of Learning Plan, “Students are expected to complete all assignments and participate in google hangouts. In addition, each teacher has office hours in which they will be available to answer questions and provide support. Teachers will provide students with one or more google hangout per week and will make themselves available during weekly office hours to answer any questions via email, phone calls, etc. (Teachers will publish office hours for students and parents to ensure they know to contact teachers for individual support and concerns.)”

As the district suspended google hangouts, teachers are transitioning to another platform called the BigBlueButton which is a more secure platform for live lessons. Some teachers have included this in their weekly calendar. Other teachers have recorded their lessons and posted them. While others have increased their office hours. We continue to be flexible as things beyond our control are fluid and evolving.

Please use office hours to reach out to teachers as that is a time they will provide individualized support. During office hours, teachers will be at their computer responding to emails immediately — if you would like a phone call or a one-on-one live meeting, just request it.
