Argumentative Essay Update

Hello Families,

Students have an argumentative essay due on Tuesday, December 17th. The topic of our essay is: Should people be bored?

Last week we worked on annotating sources that discuss the positive and negative effects of boredom in order to prepare us for our essay. This week, students are writing their rough drafts and the week before break will be used to work on grammar, punctuation, and voice. 

The essay is due on December 17th so that students who are absent or who require extended time will have this offered to them prior to break. It is essential that students complete their essay on time, so we may assess them and provide students with the necessary time to make corrections once they return from break. This will ensure corrections are made before the end of the semester.

Please encourage your child to complete any additional research they may need to do over break as well as check in on them periodically to make sure they are caught up on their essay.

If your child needs any help with their essay, Smith offers after-school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 3:00-4:30 and Ms. Timpf is one of the tutors in that program. This means students can receive additional one-on-one time if needed to ensure their essay is completed and effective.
