Flaking Out: How Snow Forms

Hello Room 108 Families,

Well… this was certainly a silly week! I hope you all stayed warm and safe during the snow storm. I also hope you all enjoyed the two days off! I really missed the students, but I am excited to share what we learned about during these two short days together. Before I share what we learned about, please see these important reminders:

Reminders…

  • MASKS: Masks must be worn at all times on school property. Families, please make sure your child is wearing a mask as they enter school. Please make sure you are packing EXTRA MASKS in your child’s backpack! We do keep extra masks in the classroom, however, we do not want to accidentally run out of masks should a child need one. All adults must also wear masks when dropping off and picking up their children. Thank you all very much for your understanding, as this is a Dearborn Public Schools requirement.
  • DROP OFF AND DISMISSAL: Preschool starts promptly at 8:15 AM. Dismissal is at 3:00 PM SHARP! If your child is going to be absent, you must call the classroom (313) 827-6575 or text me on Remind BEFORE school starts. Thank you all very much for your understanding and cooperation!
  • WATER BOTTLES: Please make sure you are sending your child to school with a water bottle. We do not have a drinking fountain in the classroom, however, we can refill your child’s water bottle throughout the day.

What Did We Learn About This Week?

We started learning about letter D! We practiced making letter D with Play-Doh. The students made both the capital and lowercase D. We also wrote about things that start with D, such as duck, dice, dog, and more! How many things can you and your child find that start with letter D?

We started exploring shadows this week in honor of Groundhog Day. The students learned what shadows were and chased them around outside! They talked about how to make a shadow appear with light.

We sadly did not have time to continue or LEGO STEAM exploration this week due to the snow days. However, we were able to continue our conversations about transportation with the help of USPS! A USPS mailman stopped by to talk to us about how he transports mail to people! He let us take a look at his mail truck! The students were so excited! I am excited to see how they will use this experience to support them further with our STEAM exploration!

Next Week at Salina…

  • Monday, February 7: School 8:15 AM-3:00 PM
  • Tuesday, February 8: School 8:15 AM-3:00 PM
  • Wednesday, February 9: School 8:15 AM-3:00 PM
  • Thursday, February 10: School 8:15 AM-3:00 PM

Fun Activity Idea!

This weekend, I encourage your child to practice writing their name! Try this out with rainbow writing! Have your child write their name with their favorite colors. Encourage your child to write their name one time with one color. When they finish, have them write their name again using a different color. Repeat these steps until their name looks like a rainbow! It should look something like this:
