At school, we count every day! We count how many friends are at school, how many toys we have, how many plates and cups we need for lunch, and much more. Counting is important for many reasons. First, counting can tell us how much of something we have. For example, if I’m counting cups lined up in a row and I don’t know how many I have, I can count them to figure it out. Second, counting is important because it can help with basic algebra skills, such as adding or subtracting. Third, counting can help develop number identification. For example, if a child counts three cups, they can find the number three (3) and match the amount of cups they have to the number.

For today’s activity, the students will practice counting. Sit with your child and watch, “Counting 1-10 Song | Number Songs for Children | The Singing Walrus”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR-cfDsHCGA. After your child watches the video, find 10 items in your house to count. These items can be toys, socks, plates, cups, and more!

If your child masters counting 10 things, have your child watch, “Number song 1-20 for children | Counting numbers | The Singing Walrus”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA. After your child watches this video, find 20 items in your house to count.

For extra number identification practice, show your child these numbers and ask them what these numbers are:

Today’s activity is focused on patterns. What is a pattern? A pattern is a sequence that repeats itself. Below is a typical pattern that we may be used to seeing. يركز نشاط اليوم على الأنماط. ما هو النمط؟ النمط هو تسلسل يكرر نفسه. فيما يلي نمط نموذجي قد نعتاد على رؤيته.

In class, we have been working on observing and creating patterns. We see patterns every day in art, music/sound, movement, and math. Before the break, the students were introduced to the letter, “G, g.” After breakfast, the students found their name cards on the carpet and looked to see if the letter, “G, g,” was in their name or not. During Greeting Time, I introduced the letter by saying its name and the sound it makes.

Today, the students will be re-introduced to the letter, “G, g,” by watching the Jack Hartmann video, “Learn The Letter G | Let’s Learn About The Alphabet | Phonics Song for Kids | Jack Hartmann”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39prtfpkRkU

After the video is over, encourage your child to find three things in your house that start with the letter, “G, g.” I encourage you to find these items in your house with your child because your child will have fun learning with you!
