Today, we are going to learn about the letter, “Y, y.” Encourage your child to watch these videos about the letter, “Y, y”:
After your child is done watching the videos, I encourage them to do these two things:
- Practice writing the letter, “Y, y,” three times. Your child should write capital, “Y,” three times and lower-case, “y,” three times. (Please send me pictures of your child’s writing on Remind or email: thompsl@dearbornschools.org)
- Practice saying the letter, “Y, y,” sound.
- Find at least one thing in your house that start with the letter, “Y, y.” Here is one thing in my house that starts with the letter, “Y, y”:

Math Activity
We are going to continue learning our teen numbers. Today’s number is 17. 17 means ten and seven more:

Encourage your child to watch this video about the number 17:
When your child is done watching the video, encourage them to do these three things:
- Count 17 items in your house (examples: 17 forks, 17 snacks, 17 steps, etc.)
- Jump 17 times and count each jump.
- Write the number 17 three times.
Work Time
I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:
- Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
- Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في التخيل و البناء و الإبداع - Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
- Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Fun Work Time Activity: Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
Here is an alphabet scavenger hunt. See if your child can find at least one thing that starts with these letters:

Outdoor Exploration
Today will be a beautiful day! I encourage you and your child to go outside for 60 minutes today. As a reminder, the Dearborn Public Schools playground equipment and sports fields are closed. This is a great day to go for a walk or play in the yard!
