Math Activity
For our math activity today, we are going to continue learning our teen numbers. The number we are going to learn about today is the number 14. 14 means ten and four more. Here is a model of the number 14:

First, encourage your child to watch this video of the number 14:
When the video is over, I encourage your child to do two things:
- Count 14 items in your house (examples: 14 forks, 14 coins, 14 steps, etc.).
- Write the number 14 three times (Please send me pictures of your child’s writing on Remind or email: thompsl@dearbornschools.org)
Work Time
I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:
- Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
- Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في التخيل و البناء و الإبداع - Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
- Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Fun Work Time Activity: Egg/Cotton Ball Race
Here is a fun activity you and your child can do: Egg/Cotton Ball Race!
These are the materials you need:
- 1 egg OR cotton ball
- 2 spoons
Here is how the game works:
- One person (either you or your child) puts the egg or cotton ball on the spoon.
- The person with the egg or cotton ball on your spoon must walk to the other person and put the egg or cotton ball on their spoon.
- Repeat steps 1-2 many times until you are done playing the game.
