Mrs. Askar and I will be calling all families who scheduled a Thursday call tomorrow from 12-3 PM. We will be calling from a blocked number, so please do not be alarmed. If you miss our call, we will leave a message. If you would like for us to call you back, please send me a message on Remind.
Personal activities will be sent on Remind Thursday morning.

4 Year Old Preschool Registration
If you have a child who is 4 years old OR you know someone who has a 4 year old child, and would like to enroll them in preschool, Dearborn Public Schools offers a Free Preschool Program. If you are interested in this program, please see the following links for more information:

Literacy Activity

We are going to continue our learning with reading comprehension. One way to read with comprehension is to identify characters and discuss their actions and/or feelings in a story. Characters are the people, animals, and/or animated objects in a story.

Today, we are going to read, Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. First, encourage your child to read the story on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xex-63PNXrc

Pause the video after each page and talk to your child about who and what they see. Support your child’s observations by responding to them. For example, if your child is talking about one of the monsters, you can say something like, “Yes, I also see the monster! They have big teeth and they are trying to scare the boy!”

After you are done reading the book, encourage your child to draw their favorite character. They can draw this in their writing journal or on a piece of paper. Talk to your child about the character and why it is their favorite. I’d love to see your child’s drawings! You can send pictures to me on Remind or email: thompsl@dearbornschools.org.

Math Lesson

Math can be done using every day house hold items. A fun way your child can practice their math skills at home is helping with the laundry! Gather these items in your house:

  • Shirts
  • Pants
  • Socks
  • OPTIONAL: Doll clothes (if you have any)

Lay out the items on the floor and ask your child to count all the clothing items. Then ask your child to…

  • Count all the shirts
  • Count all the pants
  • Count all the socks

Last, ask your child which clothing item you have the most of and why. You can also ask them if they have the same amount of clothing items (for example, you may have the same amount of pants and shirts).

Work Time

I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:

  • Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
  • Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
وقت العمل :  يجب أن لا يستعمل الأولاد الإلكترونيات . يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في  التخيل و البناء و الإبداع
  • Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
  • Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)

Fun Work Time Activity: Chalk Drawings!
Today is going to be a beautiful day to go outside and draw with chalk! What will your child draw? Will they draw the flowers? The sun? The sky? If you’re unable to go outside today, your child can draw with chalk on paper!

Outdoor Exploration

It looks like we will have some nice weather today! As always, I  encourage you and your child to go outside for at least 60 minutes today. The Dearborn Public Schools parks and sports fields are still closed. However, today is a great day to enjoy a walk or play in the yard!
