4 Year Old Preschool Registration
If you have a child who is 4 years old OR you know someone who has a 4 year old child, and would like to enroll them in preschool, Dearborn Public Schools offers a Free Preschool Program. If you are interested in this program, please see the following links for more information:

Literacy Activity

Today, the students are going to learn about the letter, “S, s.” Click here to watch my video about the letter, “S, s.”

After watching my video, I encourage your child to do three things:

  1. Practice saying the sound for, “S, s.”
  2. Find three things in your house that start with letter, “S, s.”
  3. Write letter, “S, s,” three times (both capital and lower case).

For extra practice, here is Jack Hartmann’s video about the letter, “S, s”:

For even more practice, check out Starfall’s letter, “S, s” activity: https://www.starfall.com/h/abcs/letter-s/?

Math Activity

Today, we are going to start practicing the “teen” numbers. The first number in the teen numbers is 11. This is the number the students are going to learn about today.

First, watch this video about 11:

After watching the video, I encourage your child to do these two things:

  1. Count 11 items in your house (examples: 11 forks, 11 coins, 11 steps, etc.).
  2. Write the number 11 three times.

Work Time

I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:

  • Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
  • Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
وقت العمل :  يجب أن لا يستعمل الأولاد الإلكترونيات . يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في  التخيل و البناء و الإبداع
  • Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
  • Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)

Fun Work Time Activity: Cutting Bin
Here is a fun activity you can do during Work Time that can support your child’s fine motor development. You and your child can make a cutting bin! Here are the materials you need:

  • An empty bin
  • Scissors
  • Paper (newspaper, magazines, regular paper)

First, put all the paper in the empty bin. Next, give your child scissors and encourage them to cut the paper inside of the bin. This activity will help strengthen the muscles in your child’s fingers and can help them cut with precision.

Outdoor Exploration

It may be chillier today, but it is still nice to go outside! As always, I  encourage you and your child to go outside for at least 60 minutes today. The Dearborn Public Schools parks and sports fields are still closed. However, today is a great day to enjoy a walk or play in the yard!
