Phone Calls to Families
I want to thank you all SO MUCH for your patience and cooperation during this uncertain time. I want to also thank all of you for your patience and cooperation as I have been trying to figure out the best ways to contact your families.
As mentioned, Google Meet has been suspended for students. This means our Google Meet video chat for Wednesday, April 29 at 2:30 is cancelled. Because of this, I am planning on a more effective method of communication.
Starting next week (week of May 4), Mrs. Askar and I will continue to call families, however, the method is going to change. We will call 8 families on Tuesday from 12:00PM-3:00PM and 8 families on Thursday from 12:00 PM-3:00PM. Mrs. Askar and I will conference call with the families and your child. When we call tomorrow, we will ask if you prefer a day (Tuesday or Thursday) and time frame between 12:00PM-3:00PM. At the end of the week, I will send you a message on Remind with the day Mrs. Askar and I are going to call you. We will continue using this method of communication, in addition to sending personal activities twice a week on Remind.
Wayne Metro CARES
Here is a resource from Wayne Metro I wanted to share with you all:

Literacy Activity
Let’s play a letter game AND go outside today! Today is a beautiful day for a walk! If you are unable to go for a walk, you can do this activity inside by looking out the window.
- Go for a walk with your child around the neighborhood. (If you cannot go outside, you can look out your window)
- On your walk, talk to your child about some of the things you see (trees, birds, grass, etc.).
- When you come home from your walk, encourage your child to draw/write what they saw on their walk.
- As your child is drawing/writing, talk to them about what they saw outside.
- When your child is done with their drawing/writing, encourage them to write the first letter of the things they saw outside. (For example, if your child drew grass, they should write letter, “G.”)
If you do not have the materials do draw/write about your walk, do these steps instead:
- When you come home from your walk or when you are done looking out the window, talk to your child about what they saw outside.
- Ask your child what letter the outdoor item starts with. (For example, if your child saw a bird, they should say, “B.”)
- Encourage your child to slowly draw the letter in the air with their finger. (For example, if your child saw a bird, they should slowly draw the letter, “B,” in the air with their finger.)
Math Activity
Let’s practice counting to 10 today! Here are some fun ways your child can practice counting to 10:
- Jump 10 times in the sky! Each time your child jumps count that number. Make sure your child doesn’t jump too fast or else they will lose track of their count.
- Clap your hands 10 times. Each time your child claps count that clap. Make sure your child doesn’t clap their hands too fast or else they will lose track of their count.
- Stomp your foot 10 times. Each time your child stomps their foot count that clap. Make sure your child doesn’t stomp their foot too fast or else they will lose track of their count.
If your child masters counting to 10, give them a challenge! Encourage your child to repeat these steps while counting to 20.
Here is a fun counting video we often watch in class:
Work Time
Give your child at least 60 minutes of Work Time using the, “Planning Time, Work Time, and Recall,” process. As a reminder, here are the steps for this process:
- Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
- Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS. Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
وقت العمل : يجب أن لا يستعمل الأولاد الإلكترونيات . يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في التخيل و البناء و الإبداع - Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
- Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Outdoor Exploration
I encourage you and your child to go outside for at least 60 minutes. You can go outside once a day for 60 minutes OR you can go outside twice a day for 20-30 minutes each time. You can do this with your child as they work on their literacy activity today.
