Activities for Monday, April 27, 2020

Hello and welcome back to another week of online learning! I hope you all had a restful weekend and are ready to start the week! Before we start today’s activities, here are some announcements…

Announcements

Google Meet
I apologize to inform you all that the use of Google Meet is suspended for all students for the rest of the remote learning period. Until I get approval to use another platform to use for video chatting with students, our Google Meet for Wednesday, April 29 at 2:30 is cancelled.

Phone Calls and Remind Messages
Tomorrow (Tuesday, April 28, 2020) Mrs. Askar and I will be calling families from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. I will be sending families personal Remind messages on Thursday, April 30, 2020. This is a temporary schedule change, as I have a schedule complication this week.
We will be calling from private numbers so please do not be alarmed. If you miss our phone call, we will leave a message. Please send me a message on, “Remind,” if you would like a call back.

Chromebook Distribution
Salina Elementary will be hosting a Chromebook distribution on Tuesday, April 28 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. An adult or older sibling must be present to receive the Chromebook.

Free Meal Distribution
The following is a NEW schedule for the free meal distribution at Salina Intermediate school:
Monday: 12:00 PM-2:00 PM
Wednesday: 12:00 PM-2:00 PM
Friday: 12:00 PM-2:00 PM

Pictures
If it is possible, I would love to see pictures of your children learning! You can send me pictures on the, “Remind,” app.

Literacy Activity

For today’s literacy activity, we are going to learn about the letter, “Q, q.” First, watch the Jack Hartmann video about the letter, “Q, q.”

After you watch my video, do these two things:

  1. Find one thing in your house that starts with the letter, “Q, q.” (Items that start with, “Q, q” can be challenging, which is why I encourage you to try to only find one thing).
  2. Practice writing capital and lower case Q three times.
  3. Practice saying the sound for, “Q, q.”

Math Activity

One important math concept that is important for young children to understand is number quantities. Number quantities is knowing the value of a number. For example, if a child looks at the number, “1,” they understand that means one thing. If a child looks at the number, “2,” they understand that means two things. Understanding basic number quantities helps children with counting, adding, and subtracting skills.

For today’s math activity, we are going to match number quantities (amounts) to the correct number. Here is a fun activity you and your child can do to practice this skill:

  1. Write these numbers on separate pieces of paper: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
  2. Show your child ONE number at a time. (Example: show your child the number, “2,” only.)
  3. Tell your child to find the amount of toys that match the number you show them. (Example: if you show your child the number, “2,” tell them, “Find 2 toys and bring them here.”)
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 with all the numbers.

Work Time

Give your child at least 60 minutes of Work Time using the, “Planning Time, Work Time, and Recall,” process. As a reminder, here are the steps for this process:

  • Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).  
    Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home. 
    التخطيط لوقت العمل ( وقت اللعب): ساعد طفلك على بناء مهارة تنظيم الوقت بوضع خطة  معهم عن لعبهم. هذا ما كان يفعله كل الطلاب كل يوم في المدرسة. هذا يساعد الأولاد على تنظيم أفكارهم. الأهل أيضا يضعون خطط دائما لتنظيم أفكارهم مثل قائمة التسوق قبل الذهاب إلى المتجر, كتابة القوائم تساعد على تنظيم اليوم….. 
    الأولاد سوف يخبروكم ما هي خطتهم/ ماذا سيلعبون/ مع من سيلعبون/ ماذا سيستخدمون من أدوات في لعبهم.
  • Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS.  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
    وقت العمل :  يجب أن لا يستعمل الأولاد الإلكترونيات . يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في  التخيل و البناء و الإبداع  
  • Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
  • Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
    وقت التذكر: بناء ذاكرة الأولاد و مراجعة الأحداث عن طريق جعل طفلك يعيد سرد ما قام به خلال وقت اللعب( اسال طفلك: اخبرني كيف قمت بذلك؟ أو ماذا فعلت بعد ذلك؟)

Outdoor Exploration

I encourage you and your child to go outside for at least 60 minutes. You can go outside once a day for 60 minutes OR you can go outside twice a day for 20-30 minutes each time.
