Hello everyone,
We made it through the first week of the school closure! Thank you all for your patience and cooperation. COVID-19 has caused a lot of unknowns that we were not prepared for, so I greatly appreciate your cooperation during this time.
Just like if we were at school in person, Friday starts the weekend! I do not have any specific activities for you and your child to do at home today, however, I do have a list of suggested activities you can do over the weekend:
- Go on a virtual field trip to the Houston Zoo! Click here to access the Houston Zoo’s webcams featuring various animals they have.
- Get some fresh air! I encourage everyone to go outside and get exercise for at least 60 minutes a day. Sometimes the weather prevents us from going outside. If that happens, here are some great resources to use to get exercise:
- GoNoodle: GoNoodle is a great website that we use at school! There are a lot of interactive dance videos that promote exercise and dance https://family.gonoodle.com/
- Cosmic Kids Yoga: Cosmic Kids Yoga has many kid-friendly themed yoga videos that teaches mindfulness and stretches your child can do at home https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
- Practice writing your name! All students should be writing their name every day. In addition to writing their names, the students should identify each letter in their name.
- Starfall: Starfall is a great website and app your child can use for extra learning. I recommend using Starfall for at least 10 minutes a day. Here are some activities on Starfall I recommend your child using:
- ABC’s: As we continue to learn our alphabet, I encourage the students to play Starfall’s ABC game. I recommend the students only doing letters A-H, however, they can do more if they would like: https://www.starfall.com/h/abcs/
- Numbers: I encourage the students to practice numbers 1-20. Again, they can do more numbers if they would like: https://www.starfall.com/h/numbers/
- Let’s Make a Calendar: At school, we learn about the calendar every day. Here is a fun calendar game the students can play: https://www.starfall.com/h/holiday/calendar/?sn=main
These are just some suggested activities your child can do over the weekend. I also encourage them to review this week’s previous activities for extra practice.
