Updates

Thank you families for staying patient during this weird time. I have some updates about learning labs and hybrid learning.

*With K-2 starting their hybrid learning on March 1, and to prepare us for Hybrid Learning on March 8, I am expanding the group AND the amount of time they’re with me. On Monday, I will see all Group A kids from 1:05-2:45. On Tuesday, I will see all Group B kids from 1:05-2:45.

*This week, starting March 1, all 4th graders need to login to our usual Zoom at 8:40. We begin the old, in-person, time schedule. We will also be starting specials at different times, but I will send them off to those. That might change, so I’ll let you know. After their special, they will come back to me. Here’s a rough idea of what the week of March 1 will look like:

Week of 2-22-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to our Student of the Week, Devin!

*After some glitches, the Topic B quizzes have been scored and are available for viewing on your child’s InSync link in the math course. Expect a text if your child scored less than 80%.

*We took our spelling test today, so there isn’t one this Friday. Expect a text if your child scored less than 80%.

**In-person, small group learning labs are continuing. I posted the schedule last week and will give a reminder text in the morning. However, to prepare us for Hybrid Learning on March 8, I am moving up our groups A & B to start THIS THURSDAY. So, on this Thursday, I am expanding the group AND the amount of time they’re with me. On Mondays and Thursdays, I will see all Group A kids from 1:05-2:45. On Tuesdays and Fridays, I will see all Group B kids from 1:05-2:45. Wednesday will stay all-virtual & Tuesday, February 23 will stay small.

*Our Mid-Module Test is on Tuesday. The students were given a study guide on Friday and we went over most of it in class today. I posted the answer key in the math course on Schoology so the students are to double-check their answers.

*We’re also finishing our ELA unit this week. Wednesday and Thursday will be review days, as the test is on Friday. The reviews ARE the study guide.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo!

  2. math learn book and pencil

For hybrid in-person days starting March 8:

  2. math books: Learn & Practice
  3. Pencil, scissors, glue, crayons or colored pencils
  4. MASK
  5. Water bottle

Hybrid Learning

Hybrid Schedule: On the days that your child needs to report to school, please make sure they bring ALL tools, including Chrome Book with charger, math and writing tools. Week of 2-15-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*As you know, Tuesday is an asynchronous day. I have posted ELA & Math assignments to be completed today.

*I have posted the new spelling words for this week, but we won’t be testing them until next Monday. Your child knows they have daily spelling assignments that are posted in Schoology AND on kidsa-z.com.

*I’ll be posting, in a separate post, all about Hybrid Learning and will be calling families to let them know of their child’s in-person schedule. So be on the lookout for my phone call today. Remember, Hybrid Learning doesn’t start until March 8 for upper elementary grades.

*As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo!

Schools Reopening

As you may have heard, Dearborn’s COVID numbers have reached 5%! That means, we can slowly start coming back to school! I waited until more details came out, and things may change again, so please be flexible during this strange time. Here’s the plan:

  1. Next Tuesday, February 16 will be another asynchronous morning, so teachers can meet and finalize details. That means your child will have work to complete, but there will be NO ZOOM MEETING. It will only be a half day for the students, so they’ll only have ELA and math work.
  2. Next, Wednesday, February 17 will be all online, as we’ve been doing so far this year.
  3. Thursday and Friday will have in-person learning labs and then they will continue every afternoon until March 8. I will post a schedule, on here, separately as well as in Schoology. I’d like to keep the groups as small as possible, and I want to see all students at some point during that time.
  4. As long as COVID numbers stay down, starting March 8 we will have hybrid learning. There will be 2 groups, A & B, that will come to school on certain days. Once the groupings and schedules have been confirmed, I will let you know the full details.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on the Class Dojo app.

STEAM Night

Tonight is our Virtual STEAM Night. Go to the link below. It will open a Google Doc. At 6:00 have your student join find the kit name they picked at the supply pick-up. They are listed on the left side of the chart. They will join the Zoom link that matches their kit name. They will need a hammer, an adult to help, and a screwdriver if their kit contains screws. We can’t wait to see everyone tonight.

Week of 2-8-21

Welcome to a new, short week! Here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Ethan!

*This week’s spelling words are posted in Schoology and kidsa-z.com. Your child may take the test on Thursday OR Friday, depending on when they feel ready to take it. However, the test will close on Friday night.

*As you may know, school is closed for Mid-Winter Break this Friday, February 12-15. Also, all Late Start dates have been cancelled. The district is using that time to provide time for the teachers to get vaccinated. Therefore, there will be NO ZOOM MEETING on Thursday, February 11, but the students WILL have assignments to complete. They will be posted in Schoology.

*As I told the class this morning, Dearborn’s Covid rate is falling! As long as it gets to and stays below 5%, in-person Learning Labs will be starting next week! As soon as I know more information, I will post it here.

*Last Friday’s math quiz had a technical glitch with the first question. Therefore, I had to rescore the quizzes and I gave credit for semi-correct answers. Unfortunately, I couldn’t change the scores in InSync, so once I share the news with the class, then I’ll be notifying families of scores less than 80%. You can always go see your child’s math tests and quizzes by having your child login to InSync.

*Speaking of quizzes, your child took a reading quiz today. I will be sharing their results with them tomorrow and then notifying families of scores less than 80%. You can also go see those in your child’s Benchmark Universe link in the ELA course in Schoology.

*STEM Night is this Wednesday, 6-7pm!! I believe your child got a Zoom link to join the fun and work on the project. I’ll be running one of the Zooms, so maybe I’ll see you there!

*Don’t forget, the Virtual Book Fair ends on February 14! Get free shipping on book orders greater than $25. Click on the link to set up an e-wallet and start shopping! https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/parent-how-it-works.html?fairID=5038065

*Finally, due to the shorter week, there will be no new science lesson this week. However, we will be studying the levels of government in social studies and angles in math. In ELA, we are continuing the writing process on our opinion writing. Your child should be finishing their research and starting to organize their writing with 3 reasons and evidence to support it.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on the Class Dojo app!

Week of 2-1-21

Welcome to February! Here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to our first Student of the Week, Nic! Each week the students nominate and vote for a different student to hold the honor each week. When a student wins, they have a few rewards. They can do the following: 1. change their display name; 2. pick music to be played for the week (I ask them to submit it ahead of time so I can check it for appropriateness); 3. wear pajamas to school (this one is parent-pending), but they must be appropriate to be on camera. It can be all week, or as much as parents allow.

*The Virtual Book Fair has begun! I don’t have a wishlist for our classroom, but would rather families get something for their child to read instead (that’s my wish). Click on the link to go shopping: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/parent-how-it-works.html?fairID=5038065

*Virtual STEAM night is coming! Wednesday, February 10 Nowlin Elementary will be having a virtual evening of science fun! In order for your child to participate, come pick up a free kit on Wednesday, February 3 between 4 & 5pm outside the main doors. Login instructions will come later so your child can login to Zoom to do the activity with a teacher on the 10th.
