Week of 12-6-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, RaeAnna!

*Last Friday’s spelling test & reading quiz were graded and should be coming home with with your child today. If you didn’t see your child’s scores, let me know.

*Wednesday is a LATE START. See you at 9:55.

*The Santa Shop is here this week! Our day to shop is Wednesday. If your child would like to purchase gifts, Wednesday is the day to send them to school with money. The make-up shopping day is Thursday.

*Carols and Cocoa are coming to Nowlin. Wednesday, December 8, 6-7pm outside. Come sing some songs and enjoy hot cocoa with your Nowlin friends!

*Spirit Week is coming next week. Details will come in a separate post.

*We have our spelling test, reading quiz AND a math quiz this Friday. Spelling words are posted in Schoology, math quiz covers 2 & 3-digit division using the standard algorithm, and the reading quiz focuses on character’s point-of-view.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 11-29-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to our Student of the Week, Adrien!

*Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Sabrene!

*Friday is Picture Retake Day. So if your child was absent or you would like your child to retake their picture, please let me know.

*Spelling words for the week are posted in Schoology and the “pretest” is on Wednesday. If your child scores 100% on Wednesday, then they don’t have to take the test on Friday. If they don’t score 100%, that’s okay…their score won’t be recorded. Handwriting still counts!

*Your child should have shown you their Mid-Module test scores today, since they were handed out today. They will be bringing their Unit 3 ELA test scores home on Wednesday.

*We’re having our Topic E Quiz on Wednesday, where we’ve been studying estimation to ease into long division with whole numbers.

*Please help me remind your child to bring their planners to school everyday, especially on Mondays when they get their weekly spelling words.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 11-15-21 & 11-22-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

This week’s spelling words have been posted on Schoology. They have the -le ending and the test is on Friday. Since next week is a 2-day week, there won’t be any spelling words next week. Please make sure your child practices writing them every night.

Friday is Pajama Day here at Nowlin! Wear your coziest (and school-appropriate) pajamas to school this Friday. No slippers please.

We have a mid-module math test this Friday. The study guide will be sent home on Wednesday, with in-class review on Thursday. Please help your child prepare by continuing to practice their multiplication facts.

Next week is a short week to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. School will be closed from Wednesday, November 24 and reopen on Monday, November 29. Have a wonderful break!

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on the Class Dojo app!

Week of 11-8-21

Welcome to a new week! It’s a busy one, so here’s what’s happening:

*Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Michael!

*With a full week, we have our Friday spelling test. Your child’s spelling list was posted in Schoology today.

*We have 2 evenings of Parent/Teacher Conferences this week, but you don’t ever have to wait to have a conference with me! I’m only an email or text away. Please don’t hesitate to message me if you ever have any questions or concerns.

*This week will be having a math quiz on multiplying multi-digit decimals. Our students need your help. While they are allowed to use a Multiplication Table when taking quizzes and tests, we still need to increase our speed and fluency with multiplying. Please help your child practice their multiplications facts, as we will begin weekly multiplication quizzes in December. Those quizzes won’t go on report cards, but there will be prizes!

*This card-marking you may have noticed a new addition to the scores on your child’s weekly spelling test. Not only will your child be graded on the spelling, but now I’m looking for correct handwriting. Please help me help your child with practicing their spelling handwriting every evening. In the 3rd card marking (end of January), I will begin cursive handwriting, but I wanted the kids to master printing first.

*Remember, if your child is ever going to be absent, all assignments are also posted in Schoology. Your child won’t have to miss any assignments!

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 11-1-21

Welcome to November! Here’s what’s happening this week:

*Congratulations to October’s Student of the Month, Huda! Huda is an excellent example of what a respectful student is and does!

*There is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 2 for Election Day. If you can help with the 5th Grade Fundraising Bake Sale in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Let’s get our kids to camp! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F44ADAD2EAAF94-5thgrade

*Thursday is the first day of Parent/Teacher Conferences. I am booked for that day, but still have available times for the other 2 days. Please schedule a time so we can discuss your child’s report card. I would also like your child to be there. I will also be contacting you so you can tell me HOW you would like to do your conference. Zoom is available as requested or in-person are the options. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a48afac2aa4fb6-parentteacher1 Every family gets 20 minutes, so please choose a time that you can get to on time. If you can’t, please let me know and we can make other arrangements.

*Friday is a Half Day with a 12:05 Dismissal.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 10-25-21

Welcome to the last week of October! Here’s what’s happening this week:

*Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Jana!

*Thank you so much to the families who donated for Fall Fest. The kids had so much fun and our window looked really cool! The candy was gobbled up too!

*Report Cards are coming….with that, Parent/Teacher Conferences are also coming. Click on the link to sign up for 1 conference time. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a48afac2aa4fb6-parentteacher1

*Please help your child remember to bring their Homework Folders back to school each day. We have many students who have been failing to bring back their math homework and blame it on not having their folder.

*Next week we start the new card marking period. Therefore, a few changes will be implemented. First, starting with next week’s spelling tests, a handwriting score will also be given. I will be looking for the correct usage of capital letters in words each week. Also, due dates will be more strict. Instead of having the whole card marking, anything more than a week late from the due date will be given a score of 0. This does not include students who are absent for a long period of time.

*Speaking of being absent for a long period, with Covid and other illnesses causing absences, your child is expected to login to Schoology to continue to complete their work. All ELA assignments are posted there, as well as math videos to reteach, daily homework assignments, etc.

*With Halloween this weekend, we are going to have a little celebration this Friday afternoon. If your child wants to bring in an INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED treat, that would be great. Unfortunately, costumes won’t be allowed, due to time restrictions.

*Please sign up on the Sign-Up Genius below if you or you and your student are able to volunteer for the 5th grade bake sale on November 2nd. This will help pay for camp and/or year end activities. If we do not have enough donations of baked goods or volunteers, we will have to cancel this fundraising event. Usually an election day bake sale makes great money for the cause it is fundraising for and can be great for our 5th grade. Please send in your donated items Monday to the office. Thanks for supporting our students!

*If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo. Otherwise, we’ll see each other at conferences!

Week of 10-18-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*I want to give a huge shout-out to last week’s Student of the Week, Delilah!!! I am so sorry I didn’t post her shout-out last week, but it was a bit crazy & time flies when you’re having fun!

*Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Maya!

*One more week until all old assignments are due. Anything not turned in will get a score of 0. If you don’t know how to check your child’s missing work, let me know and I can help!

*Fall Fest is this Friday! It’s from 6-7 and you can pre-order your entrance at a discounted rate. Forms were sent home last Friday.

*Speaking of Friday…this Friday is Picture Day! Make sure to dress in your finest. If you plan on ordering, you can fill out the order form that came home about a week ago & send it in by Friday or complete it online.

*Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming in November. They can be done in person or on Zoom. Let me know which one you prefer.

*If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 10-11-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening:

*This Wednesday is a Late Start. We’ll see you in line by 9:55am.

*This Thursday is our Module 1 math test. Therefore, a study guide will be sent home on Tuesday and we will review it on Wednesday.

*The countdown is on…2 weeks left to turn in any first card marking assignments! You SHOULD be getting emails every Friday to notify you of your child’s missing assignments. If not, your child should be able to pull it up on Schoology. If they don’t remember how, let me know. I can show you!

*I know some kids are struggling with the math in this module. I work with small groups during math time, but also encourage the kids to watch the math videos and use the Homework Helpers. The videos are posted on Schoology everyday. We’ll keep working on decimals and not give up!

*We need your help! Fall Fest is coming on Friday, October 22. We would love any candy donations so the kids can trick-or-treat outside of our decorated windows. The PTA is also looking for any volunteers, so let me know if you can help.

*Speaking of windows, our class has voted on a nuclear factory theme. If you have any materials that can help, or can help decorate, please let me know!

*Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming next month. As soon as I know more details, I’ll let you know about meeting times & location.

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.

Week of 10-4-21

Welcome to a new week! Here’s what’s happening this week:

*Congratulations to our first Student of the Week, Elyana!

*The spelling words have been posted in Schoology in the ELA course. Please help remind your child to study them every night. We are going to try taking a test on Wednesdays to check our progress. If a student gets 100% on Wednesday, then that will count for their score and they don’t have to take the test on Friday. IF they score less than 100%, they will still have to take the test on Friday.

*Friday we finish Module 1 in math. On Monday we will review and the students will get a study guide to practice. The Module 1 test will be on Tuesday, October 12.

*Speaking of Friday, this Friday is a Half Day. Dismissal is at 12:05.

*All ELA assignments are posted on Schoology. If you don’t know how to get email updates on your child’s progress, please let me know.

*We need your help! Fall Fest is coming on October 22 and we need help decorating our windows for the Window War. We also need someone to help pass out candy. Please let me know if/how you can help! Thanks!

*As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at: tattaa@dearbornschools.org or text me on Class Dojo.
