Things to know

***THINGS TO KNOW FOR MR. SUNI’S CLASS***
2016-2017 school year 7th grade MATH

We will be using the Common Core Standards to guide our learning this school year. They can be found here: https://www.corestandards.org/Math (scroll down to Grade 7) We will be working to prepare for the MSTEP test that will be given in the spring.
Rules:
Be seated on time.
No gum, food, drinks, coats allowed in the classroom. (bottled water is acceptable.)
*Respect the rights of others.
Bring all necessary materials.(Binder+Pencil) *NO PENS ALLOWED on math problems.

When these rules are neglected, the following consequences must follow:
Verbal warning/ refocusing of behavior.
Student’s seat moved.
Parent Contact
Office Contact.
Conference with parents, counselor, student, and teachers
** In some cases, these steps may be skipped and the student may be sent straight to the office.
(Please remember that these rules and their consequences have been established to ensure the success of all students.)

Grades:
Students will earn grades based on their percentage of total points possible for each class. Grades are based on tests/quizzes, homework, a binder, and class participation. Grades can be checked on Student/Parent Connect any time. (On Dearbornschools.org) Check with the office if you don’t have a username/password.
Grading Scale:
A 93-100% A- 90-92% B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82% C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62%

Grade categories:
Quizzes/Tests: Quizzes/Tests will be given periodically during the card marking.

Homework: given about 2-3 times a week. It will usually will be about 20 minutes of work. It is sometimes checked the next day. It is due the moment you walk in the door the next day. Any work turned in late (correctly done) will receive a score of 70%.
Going on Khan Academy will be a required homework grade. It will be due each month on the last calendar day of the month. To receive an “A” you must go on for at least 120 minutes.

Binder: Your binder will be checked at the end of every card marking. An “A” binder has everything in order, completed neatly, with no extra papers in it. (also, work is shown on everything in pencil.)

Class participation: You will be given an “A” for this part of your grade if you 1. work well in our small groups, 2. give your best effort in class and on your homework, 3. follow the procedures that you are expected to follow in class.

Quizzes and Tests will make up 80% of your grade. Everything else will make up 20% of your grade.

Absenses: **When a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to get the work he/she missed. (not Mr. Suni’s)

Card Markings: (These are the dates that they end)
1- October 14 2- December 2 3- January 27 4- March 17 5- May 5 6- June 16
*You will get a grade for math at the end of each card marking. Then at the end of the year, you will get a “final grade” for math, which will be an average of all of your work done during the year.
