Read “The Wind. . . ” by Emily Dickinson on p.950 (or look for it online if you forgot your book).  Do questions #2, 3, 4 on the bottom of the page.

  1. Interpret: Identify the speaker of the poem and infer some traits.  Support your answer with text evidence.

2.  Interpret: Who is the “guest” in the poem?  What does it do as it moves through the house?

3.  Interpret:  What words and phrases show the guest to be fleeting or fragile?  Hypothesize:  Does the speaker of the poem see the guest as menacing or kind?  Support your answer with text evidence.

4. Recall: What two actions does the speaker try to complete?  Infer: What does this suggest about the speaker?

5. Recall/Demonstrate understanding of poetic form/structure: What kind of poem is this? How many stanzas? Infer:  Why are some of the lines inverted in a non-grammatical fashion?  Support your answer.
