Survey Results and School Updates

on April 3, 2020

Hello Kindergarten Families,

At this point I am sure that all families have had time to hear or read about the executive order signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. At Lindbergh and at schools across the state teachers are devastated that our last day of face to face contact with our students was March 13th. Please know that although this is a very challenging time for families, students, teachers, and schools we are committed to continuing learning and teaching to the best of our ability. There has been, and will continue to be, a sort of learning curve between teachers and families and we move into uncharted territory for the long haul, so I am asking for and promising you in return communication and patience at this time. If you are concerned, have questions, or just want to touch base and speak to an adult instead of kids all day (something Kinder teachers totally understand, haha) please feel free to email me or text me on remind. I will continue to update the blog regularly and send remind texts as needed.

In addition, Dearborn public schools is doing their best to support families. Free meals are still offered and grants are being released to help families maintain free internet for the long term. Please let me know if you need more information about these things. Also, please continue to check the school and district blogs as they are posting resources for struggling families that may prove useful to you or someone you know. We need to take care of one another at this time; although we are apart, we must pull together.

Survey Results:

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, I received responses from most families. This information helps me greatly in planning moving forward. A couple of things:

Amount of Work:

Forms response chart. Question title: I feel the amount of work and resources being provided is too much and I am unable to get through it all. Number of responses: 16 responses.

Here the results were clearly split. For this reason I will continue to post the volume of assignments that I had been with the help of the amazing Mrs. Muston. HOWEVER, if you are overwhelmed right now, if you child is overwhelmed right now, if you have two people working from home and three kids to watch, etc. SLOW DOWN. Your mental and physical health and that of your family is paramount right now. Students can continue learning at a pace that is right for them and your family. As I have stated before on the blog, reading and math are the two most important subjects right now for your child to be successful moving forward-so if you can only do those two right now, then only do those two.

Subjects that you would like more support with:

Forms response chart. Question title: Please select the subject that you/your child would like more support with:. Number of responses: 14 responses.

The two highest scoring subjects were reading and writing. This is not shocking at all. If you polled teachers the results would most likely be the same. To support in this I will be posting some videos weekly teaching reading and writing for students to watch.

Google Hangout/Meet:

Forms response chart. Question title: If you selected yes, please choose a timeframe below: . Number of responses: 16 responses.

Only two people were not interested in joining the class on Google Meet, of those remaining, most of you would prefer to do this in the afternoon. I will send out an invite to your emails for our first hangout along with some details . We will have our first class meeting after spring break, Tuesday April 14 at 1:00pm.

*Please keep in mind that I am technically a resource teacher working in two buildings and weekly I have 7 virtual meetings/conference calls that are about an hour a piece, so my schedule is pretty finite but I will do my best to accommodate and change class meeting times as needed.

Lastly, next week is spring break so there will be no new posts on Google classroom or the blog. I know spring break feels weird in the midst of current events, but please take some time to unplug and unwind if you are able.

Thank you all for reading, I know that was a long one!

Be safe and well.

Warmly,

Mrs. Anthony
