Mrs. Suarez's P.E Blog

Have a sunny day!

NEW PE BLOG FOR ALL!

Hi, boys and girls! There is a new PE Blog for our district. It is called the DEARBORN ELEMENTARY PE BLOG and it is located on this page in CAPITAL LETTERS, on the right hand side under Class Links. It is a weekly blog and has assignments for everyday of the week. We know that you have PE class either just one day or 2 days per week. You are encouraged to do the activity/exercise listed everyday. There is also a log to fill out, but by next week, Ms. Beck and I will have a spot that you can go to and just click on your name and fill in the question. This is just a heads up for what is going on in the PE Department. We know you have classroom work to do, so these activities don’t take a lot of time. We just want you to be active every day! Keep smiling…and have a sunny day!

WEEK # 3

Hi, boys and girls!

I hope you’re taking time during the day to be active. Not only is it good for your body, it’s good for your brain and for your emotions. I always feel great after I exercise. It puts me in a good mood and gives me lots of energy! So get your 60 minutes of exercise – EVERY DAY!!!

I’ve attached a link (on the right, under class links) for Week #3 Exercise and Activities and a Log to keep a record of your minutes. Look for Week #3 near the bottom and click on your grade level.

I hope you are getting lots of sleep at night. Remember junk food is not a food group and you should limit how much you eat. It tastes so good because it’s filled with FAT, SUGAR AND SALT. A little bit is okay, but to much is unhealthy for you. Make a snack if peanut butter and apples, or an orange or veggies and labneh or hummus. Yum!!! And it’s good for you!

Happy, healthy eating!

ALSO – don’f forget to drink lots of water throughout the day. MORE water and LESS pop, gatorade and even 100% juice.

Keep smiling…..and have a sunny day!!

EXERCISE EVERYDAY!!!

Wow! My heart sure is pumping! I just did the Ironman Work out that Ms. Beck posted. I feel great! My favorite exercise was the war machines! Did you know that adults should be exercising everyday, too? Exercise keep everyone healthy! Having fun while exercising makes you want to keep it up. Both Ms. Beck and I are posting fun activities that are really exercises! The post I wrote on March 24th has an exercise calendar for Week 2-that’s the week we’re in, now. Go to the site and check it out!! Also, I’d like for you to keep track of your exercise minutes-either on the log provided in the Week#2 post, or make your own with the day and date, the exercises you did and how many minutes you did each exercise. You will be amazed how easy it is to have the minutes add up to 60 minutes per day! The weather is getting warmer so try to get outside and move! Keep smiling…..and have a sunny day!

JUST DO IT!!!!

Hi, everyone!!! I hope you are making time to do your schoolwork. It is soooo important to keep up with all of the lessons that your teachers (including me and Ms. Beck) are giving you. I went for a run early this morning because it was warm and the sun was out! I ran 3 1/2 miles!! That’s about 16 times around our track at Henry Ford or 14 times around the track at Woodworth. Now…..I’m not saying you have to go out and run 3 1/2 miles everyday, BUT – you should be moving every day for 60 minutes and I don’t mean just using your thumbs and fingers (meaning phones and games)! LOL!! Break it up into 10 minutes sessions. You can do traditional exercises such as jumping jacks, push ups, crunches, sit and reach, push up planks, shoulder touches or push ups. OR….you can check out the links on the right side of this page or click on a link under the Special Area Section of your teacher’s lesson plans.

Whatever you do – DO SOMETHING! It’s easy for me to go out and run when the weather is good. But when it’s cold, its HARD! So I say to myself “I’ll go for 5 min. and see how it is”. Getting out the door and starting is harder than the run itself! Once I start, I always continue. It’s my mind that holds me back.

What I’m trying to say is – just sit down on the floor and start – maybe with the figure 4, then add another exercise, then another one and pretty soon you’ve been active for 10 min!

I CHALLENGE YOU TO – START TODAY!!!!

KID’S MARTIAN MARATHON IS POSTPONED!!!

This post is for all 4th and 5th grade Running Club members who signed up for the Kid’s Martian Marathon. The Kid’s Martian Marathon has been postponed due to the corona virus situation. The letter below is from the leaders of the race. Please know that when I hear something, I will let you know. If you put an e-mail address on your race form, you have already received this letter.

“Thank you for your patience, Martians, as we continue work our way through a totally unprecedented situation for our business, and the entire world. We know that everybody is searching for answers, and we promise to keep you as up to date on what is going on as we possibly can. The virus at hand has been making day to day decision making difficult as things change hour by hour. We know what a frustrating time this has been for everybody and we are not ignoring you!

As you may have heard, the CDC has officially recommended that all gatherings of 50 people or more for the next 8 weeks be canceled or postponed. While this is not the news we were hoping for, we have to consider the vulnerable population and encourage adherence to social distancing. We’re committed to assisting the country in reducing introduction of the virus into new communities and slow the spread of infection.

As of today, the 2020 Martian Invasion of Races is officially postponedWe will still be holding the 2020 Martian Invasion of Races. Please bear with us as we work with the City of Dearborn and all appropriate parties involved to select our new race date. It will be in summer of 2020 and we will let everybody know through all available channels as soon as we know the date! You will know the date within minutes of us knowing, no new information is being withheld!”
