(No school Tuesday due to election day.)

The kids wrote up a short reflection about their marking period 1 grade and I told them their report card grade. (I know grades aren’t showing for my class right now since the marking period is over.)

We did the soil column model (investigation.) Kids worked in groups and should have finished and turned the lab sheet in during class.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences are next week Monday (4-7) and Wednesday (3:30-6:30.) You do not make appointments in middle school. We will all be in the big gym to make things easier for parents. Parents can stop in some time during the hours we will be there, pick up the report card, and then wait in line to talk to the teachers. We are busiest right when we open and again around 5 o’clock or so.

Only parents or legal guardians can pick up report cards and talk to teachers. We will have translators available for those who need translation. Older siblings may attend with a parent but cannot translate or pick up report cards. You will enter from the Hubbard door by the back of the school.

Between these three days all of the classes did the following:

• Bellwork #10
• summary questions for the landform model investigation on ISN p. 14
• summary questions for the land cover model investigation on ISN p. 15
• CCR boxes 2 & 3 for the drop of water reading
• Fix their landform model CER and turn it back in

A few classes did other things as well:

• Most classes did another CER in elbow pairs
• one class finished the lab paper from the other day (land cover)
• B-day classes also did a drawing of the information in the drop of water reading

Everything except BW sheet 3 should have gotten turned in. Friday is the last day to turn in late work or take quizzes missed due to absence because Friday is the end of the marking period.

Bellwork # 9

We did the land cover model investigation. Below is the list of what was supposed to be included in the models.

What to include in your models

• Show how much water was poured in and describe what the water looked like.
• Show how much water came out and describe the water.
• Draw arrows to show how the water moved.
• Explain what you saw happen in words.
• Tell that the time was 30 sec (0.5 min)

• If you participate in spirit week you will get a raffle ticket to be selected to join our Spirit Assembly on Friday
• Each day = 1 ticket added to the raffle

Roaring Hornets Day:

Represent Woodworth in yellow and purple!

• We went over the part of the reading that was homework.
• The kids then did a second read on the article and did talk to the text comments.
• We filled out box 1 & 4 on the close and critical reading sheet.
• We also did a CER together. The rest of the CER is homework if not finished.

The kids took the bellwork quiz and turned in the BW sheet.

We did part of a reading about a drop of water together in class. The kids need to finish summarizing anything they did not summarize in class.

We did bellwork #7. The quiz on the words from bellwork sheet #2 will be Tues/Wed. The kids kept the sheet to study and I posted a link to a quizlet word set yesterday.

We did the landform model investigation and paper in class. If any classes didn’t finish it is homework but they should finish in class.

I have stayed with kids 5 different times doing retakes on the systems quiz. If your child’s grade in parent connect stills says “must retake quiz” this means they have not talked to me about retaking the quiz so they can improve their grade. There are only 5 exceptions to this for kids who need to finish the retake but have already talked to me about it.

Kids will have a short bellwork quiz next Tues/Wed on the words from bellwork sheet #2.

We should also finish lesson 2 in time to have the lesson 2 quiz before the end of the marking period on November 1st. We probably will not have time for retakes on this one though.

Bellwork #6

We went over the unit bubble map and wrote questions into ISN p. 9.

We began lesson 2 about how water gets into a stream. We watched two videos to gather evidence and the kids wrote about how water gets into a stream based on the evidence in the videos. (ISN p. 12)

Some classes moved on a bit past this point.
