Mon 9/23 & Tues 9/24

The kids reviewed the vocab and then did a vocab box for one of the words.

I showed them another system and groups drew and described the system on ISN p. 7 with small groups. We then discussed as a class.

They did the end of lesson reflection questions on ISN p. 8

The Systems and System Models quiz is Wed/ Thurs this week. I will be collecting ISNs to grade that day as well. Students need to make sure their notebooks are all caught up before I grade them! See google classroom for what goes in the ISN and to study.

Planners were finally handed out today! Students should begin filling their planners out in every class.

Free Performance

On Sunday, September 22 at 3 PM, the DSO will give a free performance at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, sponsored by the DTE Energy Foundation. Across all of its 2019-2020 programming, the DSO celebrates the centennial of Orchestra Hall, built in 1919 as the first permanent home of the orchestra. From 1941-1951, Orchestra Hall became the Paradise Theatre, a celebrated venue for jazz and blues artists. The 2019-2020 season also marks the 20th anniversary of the DSO’s Paradise Jazz Series, which takes its name from Orchestra Hall’s ten-year history as the Paradise Theatre.

Join conductor Jacob Joyce as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra celebrates the centennial of Orchestra Hall, featuring works performed during the Orchestra’s first season at Orchestra Hall. The DSO pays tribute to the hall’s jazz roots with a performance of Duke Ellington Fantasy, a nod to the Paradise Theatre’s earliest concerts, which included a date featuring Duke Ellington just four weeks after the venue opened.

Thurs 8/29 & Tues 9/3

Parents, I usually update the blog every other day since I see different students on different days. For example, Mr. Prater’s team has science Thursday this week and Mrs. McKeon’s team has science Tuesday next week. Both groups do the same lesson just on different days.

Last class period they completed a getting to know you form for their teachers to read. These were done in class and did not go home.

Thurs/ Tues:

  • Groups discussed what a scientists look like and a few ideas about scientists.
  • We then shared out as a class.
  • We watched a few video clips to gather information about scientists.
  • We then revised our ideas in groups.
  • Finally, kids were given a web (bubble map) to complete with their updated ideas. The web should be colored, include good details, and have updated ideas based on the information we gathered from the video clips.

I will have kids enroll in my class for google classroom next week. The directions, links to clips, and hand out will go in google classroom once they are enrolled.
