Disney’s Aladdin Jr. 2017

Note From The Directors:

Thanks to everyone who took the time to audition for the upcoming musical. We were all very proud of you and impressed by the singing and acting throughout the audition process. Remember, you are all very talented young men and women, and we cannot wait to see you on stage in April. We will be having 5 shows for sure, but we might add one additional show. We will be double casting for some leads, hence the numbers next to names. Overall, we cast over 70 students for the show and the amount of talent made it very difficult for the panel of judges. A lot of time and effort went into these decisions, and the results follow. We wish you all the best and cannot wait to begin rehearsals.

Our first official rehearsal will be Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in the Stout Middle School Auditorium. This will be a read through of the show from start to finish. We will begin rehearsal at 3:15 and will be finished by 5 pm.

ALL those who have been cast MUST inform Mr. Baydoun if you accept your part in the show. This can be done two ways. The first, verbally, or the second, send an email to baydour@dearbornschools.org with your intent. Our hope is that none of you decide to leave the cast, but we understand that this is a huge time commitment and schedules can conflict. There will be a rehearsal schedule for each month at the beginning of the month.

Again, thank you for auditioning and our best to you all in the next step in preparing for our show Aladdin, Jr. in April!

P.S.

Mark your calendars, important parent meeting Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 5:30PM.

CAN’T STOP THE BEAT: STOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER CO. PRESENTS “HAIRSPRAY JR.”

006

Welcome to the 60s! Stout Middle School Theater Company invites you to dream big, live big and sing along with 63 cast members and crew as they present Hairspray Jr.

The story follows Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big hair and a big heart, who has only one passion – to dance. When her determination and rock ‘n roll moves land her a spot on a local television dance program, “The Corny Collins Show,” she is transformed from an outsider to an irrepressible teen celebrity. This trendsetter in dance and fashion uses her fame to win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, challenge the program’s reigning princess Amber, and rally against racial segregation… all without denting her ‘do.

With a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman, Hairspray JR. is based on the 1988 New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, which inspired the “bouffant” Broadway production which ran for over 2,500 performances and won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. New Line Cinema released a film adaptation of the stage version, starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, and Queen Latifah.

Hairspray Jr. Audition Information & Links

Hairspray jr center logo

Hairspray Jr. is a fun and upbeat musical set in 1962 Baltimore that comes with an important message: that acceptance comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.  This production has captured the hearts of millions because of it’s positive message and great music.  Cast will be exploring ideas of civil rights and discrimination in context of a period of tremendous historical and social significance in the U.S show.

The 1950’s are out and change is in the air! Hairspray JR. the family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs is adapted from the Original Broadway Version which won 8 TONY Awards including Best Musical

It’s 1962, and spunky plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has one big dream — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When she finally gets her shot, she’s transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her new-found power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. With the help of her outsized mom, Edna, and guest DJ Motormouth Maybelle, the rhythm of Tracy’s new beat just might prove unstoppable.
