Hello Families!

We survived the first day of school in our classroom with no tears! Today we continued to become familiar with being away from home and began to learn the school routine.

This week are focusing on the morning portion of our schedule:

Breakast

Greeting Time

Daily 5 (listen to reading)

Outside Time

Small Group

Large Group

During daily 5 time we built our stamina for Listening to Reading while reviewing Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney. The children talked about how Llama missed his mama at the beginning of the school day, but as the day went on he began to play with his friends and have fun. We also discussed how Llama’s mama came to pick him up at the end of the day just like our moms and dads will!

Later, during small group time the children explored two more areas of our classroom; the toy area and the block area. Children were able to make their choices of the materials they wanted to use from these areas, and then at the end of small group time used the pictures label on the bins to put their materials away independently.

Please enjoy these pictures from our first day of school:

Hello Families!

Our third annual Trike-A-Thon was held at Cotter last Thursday morning. With summer vacation quickly approaching children will be outside playing so we took this opportunity to discuss bike safety. The children participated in four lessons through out the week; 1. Always wear your helmet, 2. Watch out for driveways, 3. Never ride in the street, 4. Look where you’re going.

At the end of the week children were able to practice what they learned by riding tricycles in the circle drive of our school! When our turn was over we celebrated with popsicles and stayed to cheer on other classes in our school! It was a fun morning and the weather was beautiful. Please enjoy these pictures form the trike-a-thon!

Can’t wait to see everyone at our end of year celebration on Thursday at 1:30pm in our classroom!

Have a great day!

Hello Families!

For the last 6 weeks our class has been participating in a nutrition program sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Each week the children followed our broccoli super hero Regie Rainbow on his adventures through islands of different colors. At each island we tried different fruits and vegetables to earn our “power stripes”  and participated in exercises to make our bodies strong. The program culminated this week with a visit from Regie himself!

Regie came to our school to read the children a story and talk about making healthy choices for food and exercise. Regie even had time to join us for a bit during work time!

If you are interested in learning more about the Regie Rainbow program please check out the link posted below:

If your children would like to see Regie again he will be at the Allen Park Meijer store this Saturday! Make sure to check it out!

Have a great day!

Hello Families!

Thank you so much for joining us yesterday the the University of Michigan-Dearborn Environmental Interpretive Center! I was a bit nervous about the weather at first, but the rain held out and we had a beautiful morning walking through the trail and visiting the pond. We had a short lesson about what type of animals live in the pond and then used nets to scoop out a sample of water and plants to explore. We found so many tadpoles and different species of water bugs! The children were also able to see several adult frogs and two different types of turtles.

Reminders for next week:

  1. Spring home visits will be May 22- May25th. The sign up sheet will be available in our classroom Monday morning. We can’t wait to come visit with everyone in their home!

Have a great weekend!

Hello Families!

As if a field trip this morning wasn’t exciting enough, the children enjoyed an interactive reading of the story The Hungry Thing by Ann G. Seidler and Jan Slepian this afternoon! We discussed rhyming words and how we know two words rhyme when they sound the same at the end.

Thank you Dr. Maleyko for coming to read to our school!

Stay tuned tomorrow for pictures from our field trip to the U of M – Dearborn Environmental Interpretive Center, thank you so  much for joining us this morning and have a great weekend!
