March 9

March 9, 2018

Hello families!

We kicked off March is Reading Month by learning about a “cool groovy cat” named Pete! All month we will be incorporating Pete the Cat books into our lessons as we explore the many ways to read a book.

Thank you to Aseel’s mom Ms. Salahiddine for being our first guest reader of the month! The children loved listening to the story about Pete the Cat’s big lunch and thinking of ways that they might share things with their friends like Pete did.

This week in our classroom we launched Word Work during Daily 5 time. This is a portion of the day where children focus on taking letters that they recognize and using them to form familiar words such as their names, the names of friends and family, mom, dad, etc. We used straight lines and curves to build letters on the rug and  letter stamps to make words in playdoh,

We are lucky to have a practicum teacher from Baker College this semester, and the children have really been enjoying having Ms. Johnson in our classroom on Tuesdays. During small group time Ms. Johnson taught a science lesson using paint where the children used ice cubes to explore cause and effect and color mixing. The were so interested in how the paint changed as the ice began to melt, and had many observations and ideas about why their colors were changing and what was causing the paint to mix together.

A few reminders for next week:

-If you have not already, please send your child’s snow pants, boots, snow gloves, and hats to school with them on Monday. We will still be going outside to play twice a day, and having warm clothes means we will be prepared for the unpredictable Michigan weather.

-Monday, 3/12/18 Our class will say the Pledge of Allegiance at the Dearborn Public Schools board meeting. We will meet at the ASC/Ten Eyck building at 6:30pm and the children will be dismissed around 7:30pm.

-Thursday, 3/15/18 There will be no school for children this day, Ms. Thabet and I will be holding Parent/Teacher conferences all day. Appointment reminders will go home in your child’s folder Monday afternoon, and I have updated the conference tab at the top of the blog with the schedule as well.

Have a great weekend!

We will be talking about what literacy skills look like in preschool and was you can help your child at home. Please plan to stay at school with your child for about an hour, and do your best to find care for your younger children. Hello Families!

What a busy week we have had! Thank you to everyone for joining us on our library field trip on Tuesday. The children enjoyed reading stories, reciting rhymes, and doing finger plays while parents had a tour of the library.

The children have been enjoying the snow outside all week, so we brought a bit of the winter weather inside by putting snow in the water table and “ice skating” in the classroom using wax paper.

We finished out the week with pajama day and fun activities with our next door neighbors Ms. Stafiej’s and Ms. Abdellah’s class.

Have a great Winter Break and we will see you back at school on January 8th!
