7th grade ELA

Greek & Latin test is set for June 2, 2016. Test will include 4 sections-

  • section 1- matching
  • section 2- definitions (dermatologist= one who studies the skin)
  • section 3: write 3 English words for a specific set of root words
  • section 4: new root words not learned in class

Song- 

  • students will be presenting their songs the week of June 6, 2016!

7th Grade ELA 4/29

Homework:

  1. Paragraph #3 for explanatory essay due on Monday. I sent the checklist on Remind as well.
  2. Final draft of letter, stamp, envelope, address of individual you are sending the letter to are all due on TUESDAY!

Paragraph #3

Case Study/Kevin’s story:

  1. Sample Topic sentence- No matter how much an individual tries to deny the fact that homelessness is a serious issue, one cannot ignore the fact that there are real people in today’s society that are struggling with homelessness.
  2. Case Study- summarize Kevin’s story. Include beginning, middle, end. (The article, “I Was Homeless” by Kristen Lewis references a young boy who experienced being homeless first hand. )
  3. Any help?? What programs/ organizations are out there to help and assist the homeless? ( With the help of numerous programs, Kevin and his family were able to get back up on their feet.)
  4. Elaboration sentences (2-3) (Even though the number of homeless individuals in the United States is increasing, the numbers could be even higher without the help and assistance of such organizations.)
  5. Closing sentence- help is available….

  • Symbolism Project for “What do Fish Have to do With Anything?” DUE April 12, 2016
  • Project needs to include: 2 citations, definition, picture, title, author, what the symbol represents, and be COLORFUL/NEAT!!!!
  • First Impressions response (Diary 4) due on Monday, April 11, 2016. MUST be written in pen, skip lines, minimum 3 paragraphs (answers all 3 questions on rubric)

Students are encouraged to recognize outstanding teachers who have made significant contributions to their education by submitting 2016 Teacher of the Year nominations by the deadline: 5pm, Thursday, April 7, 2016.

Last week, students wrapped up their poetry unit with a fun and creative project and test!

This week, students will be introduced to a new short story from the literature book. Our focus will be:

  • Symbolism
  • Explanatory Writing/Newspaper Article
  • R.A.C.E questions/responses
  • Vocabulary

Two weeks ago, 6th grade students were introduced to “practice” argumentative writing- this week, students will focus on the following activities:

  • Wing Clips #2 &3
  • Counter-Argument paragraph (5 steps)
  • Introduce different hooks/ attention grabbers
  • Introduce “final” argumentative prompt/ T-chart/ argumentative organizer

7th grade ELA-

  • Continue working on poetic devices flipbook- due on Friday, 2/26
  •  Introduce new poetry project ( hint-you will need either colorful sharpies or thin markers)–Due March 2, 2016
  • Article of the Week #7- annotate & color code annotations
  •  Write one page reflection- see question on the bottom of article
