Fall Weather Wear

I think Fall has arrived!  Please make sure that your child has proper weather clothing.  Until the real cold temperatures set in,  we will go outside every day, even if just for a few minutes.  We went outside both morning and afternoon today.

Please help them learn how to dress themselves with sweaters and jackets too.   (Putting on the sweater, learning how to turn the sweater/sweatshirt right side out, arms in sleeves, etc.)  Independence is important.  🙂

Thanks

See, I told you I use this blog a lot!

Please ask your child to read you the book that we made today.  There is a lot to that book!  Directionality (left to right), top to bottom, read left page first and then right hand page, letter formation and sounds to go with letters.  We even ended our sentences with periods!  And it’s only Day #6 of Kindergarten!  Look out!

I have finished assessing letter recognition for each student. Many know quite a few letters-good job parents!

Tomorrow is LATE START.  School starts at 9:35 am.  Enjoy sleeping in for the morning.

Hope to see you at the picnic tonight.

Tomorrow is LATE START.  Students arrive at school 1 hour later (9:35 am).  Dismissal is regular time.  Today I will take tomorrow’s lunch order.

Yeah!! My blog is running!

Welcome to Kindergarten!  My blog was just “adjusted” so now we can communicate.  I will post at least once a week, (usually Sundays) for the following week.

Thanks for the snacks and room supplies.  You are wonderful.

This week…

READING-Our word of the week is “I.”  Today we made a book using the word “I”.  Please look for the book to come home today.  Have them read the book to you, sibblings, grandparents, the dog, pet fish, …  The more they read, the more fluent they become and FLUENCY is part of reading!  How about that-a book already and it’s only day #5 of school.

WRITING-We made the book.  We wrote several letters as we wrote the words in the book.

MATH-Count, Count, Count!  I am assessing their counting as we play some games on the Promethean Board.  Keep counting and problem solving at home.

MUSIC & GYM started today.  Please make sure your child wears gym shoes on gym days (Mondays and Wednesdays).

Of course we read stories every day and will usually have centers.  We are busy in here.

I began my morning today by telling them how amazing they were last week with all of that heat!  So hot for their beginning of Kindergarten.  I took them to the Library in the middle of the afternoon to cool off.  Lots of drinks and calmness and they persevered. Wow!

Howard Picnic is tomorrow 4:00-7:00.

Here’s to a cooler week.  🙂

Meet the new FIRST GRADERS!

Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Miss Jordet stopped in to wish everyone a Happy Summer so I grabbed a photo opportunity.

Last year I fell in my classroom and broke my wrist.  I was out of school for 4 months and the year seemed to crawl.  This year I was not absent one day of school and the year seemed to fly!

Thank you all for a wonderful year.  They are ready for FIRST GRADE!  They have my email address and I told them that they need to write to me at least once this summer. 🙂

Enjoy your summer.  Please come back and see me!

Suckers :)

Yum… We had a busy day today, as many of them mentioned!

This morning we were busy with thinking of an animal, a place, and a thing that began with the beginning letters of our first and last name.  You should see a tri-fold piece of paper with flaps for work.

This afternoon we learned about SUCKERS!  Check it out!

What a fun day!

Please check backpacks.  I sent home a book (green) with papers I have collected all year.  Enjoy the walk through Kindergarten.  Notice their picture and their last picture.  Also check out how they wrote their name at the beginning of the year and today’s writing of their name.

The report card is also included and a note from me.

See you tomorrow. Dismissal is at 11:45.

Our Last Week in Kindergarten!

Well, it is here…our last week in Kindergarten.  We have had a wonderful year together.  This week I plan on some fun activities and enjoying time with each other.  Here are some reminders:

MONDAY-We had Field Day this am. Twice I tried to write this post before school but got interrupted.  I didn’t get to take many pictures of them at Field Day because I had a chipmunk creep into my room just as we went out for the games.  I cornered him in the bathroom while the students were outside participating in the games.  Fortunately the chipmunk preferred to be outside and escaped out our back door.  Just then our Pencil Pals from Woodhaven School District arrived to FINALLY meet us and spend some time together..  They joined us in the games and snack time (sno-cones and popcorn). We had a short story and then it was lunch for us and departure for the Pencil Pals.  Mr. Marks’ class and my classes have been Pencil Pals for about 25 years and we always enjoy it.  Unfortunately for us (and me) Mr. Marks will retire this year.. He told all of the students today that this day (the day that we finally meet and spend the day together) is his favorite day of the year.. So special!

TUESDAY-OUR CLASS PICNIC! Kindergarten families are welcome to join us for a picnic lunch.  Bring a lunch for your family and a blanket for sitting.  Our Picnic will go from 11:00-12:00 outside my recess door, on the porch and lawn.  If you’d like to bring an outside game, please do so.

WEDNESDAY-I will have the WHOLE DAY to myself with the students.  Please have them continue to bring their backpacks.  I will be sending home their Writing Journals, Math/Science Journals, robins, etc.

THURSDAY-Half Day  11:45 Dismissal  We will enjoy the morning together..  At 11:45 you will no longer have a Kindergartener–you will have a FIRST GRADER!!

Thank you for a terrific year.  I’m so pleased with their progresses and successes.  Thank you for all of your support on the home front.
