Welcome 2016! The students were VERY excited to be back in school! WOW! Lots of news…losing teeth (the Tooth Fairy was busy during our break), trips to Traverse City and Florida, fun days with Grandmas and Grandpas, spending gift cards at Toys R Us, playing with X-Boxes and toys and not every one has had a chance yet to share! It’s good to be back. I missed them.

WRITING-Our district Writing Prompt will be in 3 weeks and the students will need to write an Opinion Piece. To help prepare for this, I will be asking for their opinions on a multitude of topics. They will then write a few of their opinions in sentences. You can help with this at home. Ask them questions, like “What’s your favorite cereal? WHY?” WHY is the opinion part of their answer. They need give a reason (opinion) for their favorite cereal choice.
P.S. “because” is not a reason!

Parents,
Please enjoy your child’s December Book that they are bringing home today. It has taken 2 weeks to create. If pages are missing pictures, your child was absent on those days. They can fill in the pictures to go with the sentence that I wrote for them. Lots of work and they enjoyed reading the final book this morning.

I found these in the closet and no one is claiming them. I know they came in on one of my students but they don’t recognize them. Help Moms!

WRITING-A List (A Menu)
LETTERS-C c N n (Review week)
WORDS-Have have To to (Review week)
OPPOSITES-We’ll explore Opposites (also known as ANTONYMS)
During the break, you might want to go back through my blogs and find the letters and words on which we have focused since September. Remember that as we add new letters, we can make new words with letters we already know. For example, in September, the first letter we learned was m. The next week we learned a. Put them together and you have the little word am. Lots of possibilities exist.
Students should know all of the letters and words that we have had each week. Since I write with them EVERY day since the first day of school, they have been writing many, many more words too, which serves to increase their writing selection of words.
PROJECTS-I hope you are enjoying the projects that are coming home. Lots of math, problem solving, following directions, and opportunities to use those fine motor skills are involved. More to come to help you with house decorations!
HEALTH NEWS-I have a case of Strep Throat in here. If your child is complaining of a sore throat or seems “under the weather,” you might want to check it out.
REMINDERS…
*Please help your child remember to bring in their Book Bag on their appointed day. The extra time spent reading at home sure is a boost for young readers. Thanks for your help on the home front.

*LIBRARY DAYS are Wednesdays. Library Books due on Wednesdays.
