WRITING-We’ll write an Informational Book.

SPELLING- Thank you for your help at home with the spelling words.  Not only does it help your student to do well on the weekly tests, but it shows and teaches them good study habits and the importance of completing assignments.  In addition to our reading unit words,  we will be working with the “ug” chunk.  Look for some words in your daily/evening reading with your child.  Here’s this week’s list:

here  was  bug  hug  mug  tug  plug  plants

MATH-A Study Guide went home today…VERY easy.  I will be checking them next week for those concepts on the Study Guide.  Simple Addition/Subtraction, > < =, missing numbers in a sequence, 10 frames (back side of Guide).  Again, VERY easy!  The students are doing quite well in MATH and READING/WRITING.  Thanks Parents!

SCIENCE-Plants 🙂  What do plants need to live?  We’ll make a flip chart.

What grows from seeds?

What are some different ways seeds travel?  How do they get from here to                                   there?

Looking Ahead…

3/15  Spring Pictures

3/18  Roller Skating Party (P.T.A. sponsored event    A Flyer went home today with details.)

Wasn’t yesterday’s Snow Day a pleasant surprise!  I’m hearing about lots of family activities-sledding, making snowmen, drinking hot cocoa, eating pancakes, staying in their pajamas all day… 🙂

The dioramas look fantastic and the students are so proud of their work!  I hope you enjoyed watching the project evolve.

I also have some “100 year old looking” folks in here today.  How adorable!!  I’ll post pictures later today.

For next week…

MARCH IS READING MONTH   Our school theme is “Earthlings, take me to your Reader.”  I made spaceships and put their picture in the spaceship.  I posted the spaceships around the “Earthling…” title.  They look cute!

**HOME PROJECT**  Your child is to make a diorama about a season and an activity one can do in that season.  They can choose any season.  I am sending home a note with examples of some diorama.

This Home Project will be due next Thursday, Feb., 25.  You can start working on this right away so the project will be completed on time.  🙂  (Good Study Skills, Responsibility)

Also happening next week …

FRIDAY, FEB 26 (the day after the Home Project is due) is our 100th day of Kindergarten!!  I will have several thing planned for them to do to celebrate the day.  We thought it would be fun to dress up as  a 100 year old person. 🙂  So, check your wardrobes, garage, attic, etc for something to wear on our 100th Day on Friday.  Have fun with this!

REMINDER-Students need to WEAR their boots to school and pack their shoes.  It’s quite snowy, slushy, muddy outside and those spots become magnets for 5-6 year olds!  It all gets tracked into the room, onto the carpet, and they sit in it.  YUK!  Thanks for your help with this.

Enjoy your weekend.

Also, Fri., Feb 26 will be the 100th day of Kindergarten.  I thought the kids might enjoy dressing up as a 100 year old person. 🙂  Please don’t go out and buy anything special for this. Just wanted to let you start think about this…me too!

Graphing with Stuffed Animals

MATH-Yesterday we made a Tally Graph of our favorite ice cream flavor.

Today, using our stuffed animals,  we made a Bar Graph.  After graphing all of the animals, I asked them questions and they had to use the graph to figure out the answer.  For example, I asked, “What is the total number of tigers, reindeer, alligators, and Pandas?”  “Which animal group has 1 less than the tigers?”  etc.  No pencil/paper…just using their brains.  They had lots of fun!
