Busy, busy week! Lots of reading, reading groups, writing, math and science going on in here. Learning is fun!
A quick post for now, as I have to get my kids from Art in 3 minutes.
SCIENCE- We are Scientists in here and I’d like the students to feel like a Scientist. So, if you have an old white shirt please send it in with your child. I will turn them into LAB COATS to wear when we are doing science and being SCIENTISTS. I bought them some LAB GLASSES so we’ll really be looking the part of a SCIENTIST. Thanks!!
MATH-A few pages are coming home today. please have your child complete the pages and return on Monday. Remind them to put their homework in their backpack as soon as they finished it. Responsibility on their part!
Off to get my kids. 🙂

What great, productive days we are having in here! We hit all of the subjects every day and I ask the students at the end of the day, ‘What did we learn about today in _____?” I’m looking for recall and comprehension, both good skills for learning.
Yesterday we worked with the letter “L l” ( a paper came home with a word web of 4 words that begin with “l.”) Today we worked with the word “like.” More work with that tomorrow and we will add the letter “P p.”
In Science we made a tongue today and labeled the parts of the tongue for taste. Tomorrow we will finish with the sense of touch.
In Math we are working with 10 frames, creating numbers on the frames and then writing the number. We’re getting very good at recognizing what the 10 frame represents.
In Writing, we are working on Opinion Writing. ( It fits with the word ‘like.” 🙂 )
Keep up with the words that we have already learned. Students are expected to read and write those words…I Can can The the We we like
BOOK BAGS-Each student has a book bag. Please begin sending in the BOOK BAGS on the designated day indicated in their bag. Read EVERY night with your child.. Some books will be easier that others.

First off I added another feature of our reading program…READ TO SOMEONE. It’s reading with a partner and they enjoyed it.
And HIGH up in this tree flew our MAYA, the MONARCH BUTTERFLY. The kids quickly became very attached to her and we even had a few tears as she flew away and we came back to an empty classroom. 🙁
Good news, though…On Monday we will be getting a Black Swallowtail caterpillar! She will take 9 months to live in her chrysalis and, hopefully, emerge in May/June. I already started a Compare/Contrast on the 2 caterpillars. My Scientists are so excited about this new learning.
Next week…A SHORT WEEK. No school for Kdgrs on Friday. I have a meeting.
READING-We will work with T t D d

Thank you all for the great turn out tonight for your child! It is always one of my favorite visits.
Here are a few pictures from today…
Math-Making Patterns with Pattern Blocks
SCIENCE-Our chrysalis hatched in the wee hours of the morning! We have a Monarch Butterfly! We named her “Maya.” To say the kids were excited is an understatement—oh my goodness!! Happy Birthday Maya 🙂
Maya was very quiet and tired from her work in hatching. By the afternoon she had gained some strength and left her stick for some wing stretching and strengthening. By 24 hours after hatching she will be very hungry so I gave her an orange slice and watermelon wedge.
Maya has to make a very long journey to Mexico City, Mexico, and then back up to Houston, Texas area to lay her eggs. so, we will release her this afternoon so she can begin her flight. She will live for 9 months, she’s the super-mom. After she lays her eggs and they hatch, her daughters will fly to Oklahoma where eggs will be laid and her daughters will live for only 3 months. Then the granddaughters will lay eggs, hatch, and fly north, lay eggs, hatch and great-granddaughters will fly on to Michigan, living only 3 months. So you see, Maya is really the “Super-Mom!”
We will miss her but, hopefully, our “Clara, the Caterpillar” will spin her chrysalis by next week and…!!!
Library Books
Author: Sandra SmithSep 13
Today your child went to the library for the first time and checked out a Library Book. They are excited to take home the books…remember the book is THEIR CHOICE! Readability level might be higher that you might choose, but they got to choose the book.
Please help them keep the book safe and clean-backpacks are a good spot to help with that.
Our day to return/exchange books is WEDNESDAY. Students need to have their Library Book at school on Wednesdays in order to get a new book.
