Today

We had a fun-filled morning with mixing PRIMARY COLORS.!!

We had a visitor, Mr. Marks, a very dear friend and former Kindergarten teacher.  He baked some pumpkin shaped cookies and we mixed different colors together to get the perfect color orange for our cookie.  We put on our LAB COATS because we were Scientists.  We discovered that:

blue and yellow frosting make green frosting.

red and blue make purple frosting

and red and yellow make orange frosting!

We also had a birthday today!

Happy Birthday Tiana!

Tomorrow is Halloween.  What a fun week in Kindergarten!

Halloween Parade

Tomorrow students may bring their costume to school in a bag/backpack.  I will help the students get dressed after lunch.

Thank you

Week of October 30, 2017

Another great week coming up!  Tomorrow is our All School Halloween Parade at 1:30.  My Homeroom moms have organized party goodies to be sent in and we’ll enjoy the treats later in the afternoon.  Thanks Mrs. Saleh and Mrs. Hassan.

READING-We will continue with our unit on Friends.  This week’s theme is Friends All Around.

WRITING-Narrative Writing (Story ).  all stories have a Beginning, Middle, and an End.  As you have conversations at home/in the car/waiting for soccer practice, etc. , make up a story with your child.  Identify the beginning, middle and end of your story.  Do the same when you read together at night….”What happened at the beginning of the story?”  Make sure it’s just the beginning event, and not a retelling of the entire story.  (Retelling is for another week.)

Our writing stem will be “I can go to a _________.”  We will use our new words and words that we already know.

WORDS-Go  go

LETTERS-H  h   I  i   F  f

MATH-We will introduce a new manipulative…”rack.”  The kids will enjoy them.  Here is a picture of a rack.

SCIENCE-We will finish our unit on FORCE.  Push and Pull

REMINDER THAT FRIDAY IS half day.  Dismissal at 11:45.

Have fun tomorrow night with your Trick of Treaters!!  I’ll probably be out with 3 of my little granddaughters.  Every day is such fun and a blessing.  Enjoy each one.

What a great field trip yesterday!  Thanks to all parents who chaperoned and to  weather for cooperating.  I have been visiting  that zoo all of my life and yesterday was the first day that I had seen some of those animals up and moving about!  We took quite a bit of time this morning to share favorite animals and surprises about some of them.  Interesting conversations.

Moving on with the day, we were extremely busy-wow!

We wrote an 8 page book!  Writing an 8 page book in Kindergarten is quite a feat.  The book is in their BOOK BOX and I’d like to leave it there for a few days.  They are very proud of their work.  Lots of writing of this week’s words see  a .  End of sentence punctuation, Spaces between words, stretching out words and listening to sounds that our mouths are saying so we know what letter to write.  Even just keeping up with the lesson is an opportunity to perform well.  Spacing is another text feature.  Here is a sample of a book.  Thanks for sharing your book Zahraa.

then is Science, we had a great experiment about Sink or Float??  They had to make an Hypothesis about 6 different items.  Then we did the experiment.  We observed our findings and lastly we recorded our findings.  THEN, we tried to figure out why some items sank and others floated.  We were really confused when the tiny wooden block floated and so did the big wooden block, but the tiny paper clip and clip sank.  the last item that we investigated was the pumpkin.  I’ll let them tell you the results and, the most important part…why???

Take a look…

.

Thanks for sharing your work Anne.

We have  had a busy and exciting day of learning today.

Tomorrow I have a fun project planned for them with their 5th grade BUDDIES.  🙂

WORDS: See  see  A  a  It  it

WRITING:

We will continue with Opinion Writing.  “I  like _________ because _________.”

We will write about favorite things, like favorite food, book, toy, etc.  Have some conversation at home about their “opinions.”  Have them answer in a complete sentence.

For example, “What’s your favorite thing to eat AND WHY?”

Student: “I like to eat cereal because it is crunchy.”

(Opinion)                ( reason)

Parent:”What’s your favorite game to play?

Student: I like to play “Chutes and Ladders because I like sliding down the slides.”

(Opinion)                                            (Reason)

MATH-Adding 1 more to another number   This is such an easy one to practice at home.  Please work with it.  We do this every morning when we figure the lunch count.

Parent:  “What is 15 and 1 more?”

Student:  “16.”

SCIENCE-PUMPKINS!!

We are Scientists!

Yesterday we talked about what a Scientist looks like.

Next we thought about WHAT a Scientist does.

We started our INVESTIGATION.  Today we will continue with our investigations.  We will observe and record our findings.

We wear lab coats and Safety Glasses too.  We are Scientists!

Students of the Month

Each month teachers get to choose 2 students who exemplify good character in attitude, behavior, and academics. I have so many students worthy of this month’s choice.  It’s a good thing there will be other months to share this honor.   For the month of October I have chosen 2 of my students who demonstrate these qualities daily.

Hassan El Moussawi        Tiana Soueid

Congratulations Hassan and Tiana!
