Week of March 2, 2020

Happy March!! Can you believe that it’s already March? Slow down time, please.

March is Reading Month. I invite parents, grandparents, to come in and read to my class for 10-15 minutes. I have a sign up list in my room. Please come in to sign up for a time slot. Nothing long, maybe a favorite story of your child’s bedtime books.

Coming home today is a calendar with details about our Howard school March is Reading Month activities. Our theme is

When your child is melting down,

Try to remind yourself…

“We get grumpy when we are hungry, too.

We get anxious with change, too.

We get frustrated when things don’t go our way, too.

We get overwhelmed when things seem too big, too.

We are all learning

and we ALL need a little patience,

a listening ear, and a LOT of grace. “

Have a great (warmer??) weekend.

100th day

Oh my goodness parents! You outdid yourselves with these “old folks!” They look adorable and are so very excited. I know they don’t look very excited in these pictures but they really are happy to see each other’s creations and compare. I always take my class down to the office to show Mrs. Jumaa how cute we look and she’s already called me and asked when I’m bringing down the Old Folks. Our sign holder in the middle is our new student from Ohio…

VERA CARLSON!

Welcome to our class Vera!

I now have 26 bright Kindergarteners in my class.

Thanks for the efforts that you put into today. These are the days that they will remember.

Reminder

Tomorrow is LATE START and Library Books are due.

Math Packets coming home today.

We’re back on schedule with Reading Groups with Book Bags. I am pleased with the reading strategies that they are using with their reading…like looking at the pictures, making beginning sounds, pushing through the words, flipping vowels, skipping a word and going on to see if they can figure out a word, remembering phonics rules, like “when 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking” as in “heat” e a go walking, but only e does the talking, and e at the end of a word makes the vowel long, as in cape

Thanks for the help and support at home.

Reminders …

This Wednesday, Feb. 5 LATE START

Thursday, Feb. 6 100th Day for Kindergarten

Friday, Feb. 7 NO SCHOOL FOR KINDERGARTEN
