SOCIAL STUDIES- Students presented their timeline last week and they were wonderful! I have them posted in my room. They were very interested in each other’s pictures.

This week we will be talking about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

There was a major error with the report cards. I have put in a call and an email to testing services. If there are 4’s on the card, please change them to 2’s. So sorry for the panic!

Notice about the 100th day of school also coming home today.

Have a good week.

There is a piece of homework coming home tonight…looks like this. It is due tomorrow.

Have your child create a sentence to go with each word. We are working on writing a good sentence, something more that “This is a pencil.”
For example, they could write “This is my brother’s new pencil.”

Reminder that I will NOT be having reading groups this week, due to reading testing. So, keep the BOOK BAGS at home and practice reading lots and lots!

Remember that tomorrow is Wednesday, LIBRARY DAY! Let’s try for 100% books returned tomorrow. Put them in the backpacks right now. While you’re at it, have your child put their shoes in their backpack too. A few were missing shoes today.. Boots and shoes come to school every day.

Stay warm and I’ll see my kids tomorrow.

Journal writing

Today’s writing…

“What is something you did last night.”

“Last night I…” They wrote at least 2 sentences with a Capital letter at the beginning, spaces between words and a period at the end. Most did very well pushing through the words, listening to the sounds that their mouth was making and writing a good sentence (one that makes sense!). Practice this at home. Have them make a sentence about what they had for dinner, what was the story about in class, what they are doing over the weekend, etc. Any topic is fair game for writing! Be creative with ideas. Watch how they stretch out words, listening for sounds, etc So important.

Here are my writers this morning…

Week of January 6, 2020

Welcome 2020! I hope you rang in the New Year with happiness and peace with family. We managed to stay up until midnight but faded quickly thereafter. All 3 daughters, their husbands, and all 6 grandkids were home for Christmas and it was wonderful!

Sounds like my little scholars in here had great days too. I sent home yesterday something that each one told me about their break. I really missed them and was so ready to see them.

Here’s a look at this week…

WORDS- have you up on dog

READING COMPREHENSION-Winter (non fiction)

WRITING-OPINION “Which season do you like best?” Write something you like to do in that season. “I like winter. I like to catch snowflakes on my tongue.”

“I like summer. I like to collect shells on the beach.”

“I like Spring. I like to see the new flowers pop up.”

“I like fall. I like to roast marshmallows over a campfire.”

SOCIAL STUDIES Today I asked them how they could better themselves or the world. “2020 is a Great Year to…” Great ideas. Ask your student what they said.

MATH-From any given number, add 1 more. ie 7 add 1 more= 8

REMEMBER TO SEND IN BOOK BAGS. I will be doing a mid-year reading level assessment. Make sure that your child reads every night for 20 minutes. I can always tell who has read their books during the week. Also, do some sentence writing with the weekly words. Today I had them write 1 sentence for have and you. Several had difficulty just coming up with an idea for a sentence. Practice at home. Make up sentences in the car, waiting at soccer practices, etc. Please help them create an idea, then write it down…pushing through unknown words and giving lots of practice to all the words we have had so far.

Wednesday is LIBRARY BOOK DAY.

Math Packet came home today-due next Monday, 1/13.

Have a good week and Blessings for the NEW YEAR.
