Math can be so much fun (and noisy!!)

I’ll try to catch more groups tomorrow.

Readers!!

Today I started something new with my kids.  During READ TO SELF time, I had them practice reading a book that they could read to the class.  Here are my first readers!!

Ali Boomrod  Avery Pelty  Adam Moustafa

I wonder who will be ready to read to the class tomorrow?

Reading Book Bags

I will be running Reading Groups through this week.  Then, for the next 2 weeks, I will be testing during Reading Group time.  I am giving out new books this week so please continue to have your child read their new books to you.  2 of Monday’s group were missing their Book Bags-I told them to bring in their Book Bags tomorrow and I will work with them.

I will be doing DRA reading Levels and they will be taking NWEA tests for both Reading and Math.  Lots of good sleep and a healthy breakfast and lunch.  Both NWEA tests are in the afternoon so pack healthy lunches for them.

Thanks!

Week of January 7, 2019

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a relaxing and fun filled 2 weeks with your loved ones.  I spent my days with my sisters and their families and, of course, my 3 daughters, sons-in-law, and my 6 grandkids!  Lots of music, games, laughter, stories, and eating.

I was so happy to see all of my kids yesterday. ( In fact, I woke up at 2:30 AM and was ready to go to school!) I knew that they would have a lot to tell me.

Here’s our week…

This week, I will choose 5 students each day to go down to the office and lead the entire school in reciting The Pledge of Allegiance and The Howard School Pledge.  They speak into the microphone, stating their name, and then say the Pledges. Every one will get a turn.

Weekly theme…SNOW

READING-We will focus our reading comprehension on Character Traits.

Yesterday we read 4 books about SNOW and discussed the traits of the book characters.

We’ll read The Mitten, The Hat, Snowmen at Night, and Sneezy the Snowman, just to name a few.

WRITING-OPINION “Do you like snow?”  Why or why not?

PHONICS/SOUNDS- long a sound, like in ape

MATH-Comparing numbers with 1 more or 1 less.   Yesterday they managed “1 more” fine, but had difficulty with “1 less.”   ie “What is 1 less than 7?”

SCIENCE- Weather Conditions  (Blizzards, Hurricanes…)

Here are my December Students of the Month  Congratulations for good behavior, good choices, and being helpful.

Have a good week everybody!
