Surprise!!!! Snow greeted us this morning!  I told my husband that I knew of 24 very excited little Kindergarteners this morning!  I can only imagine the squeals in your houses this morning.

Here’s what’s coming up next week…

READING/WRITING THEME-Harvest and Thanksgiving

LETTERS-R  r     E  e   Make sure that your child can make the sounds of the letters, as well as read and write the letters.  Sounds are VERY important to reading and writing.

WORDS-It  it       Is  is    (Following on last week’s word in)  Your child should know the i  sound, since we  had that letter/sound the week of 10/22.  “Make the sound.  Now make the sound. Slide the sounds together.  Do the same for is. ”  These words should be very easy for them.  Add these word cards to their word card bank.  Spread the cards out on the floor.  Make a sentence with the words.

WRITING-Informational about TURKEYS.

PHONICS/WRITING- Final Sounds.

MATH-Geometry  Naming shapes, describing the shapes  (“A rectangle has 4 sides, 2 long sides and 2 short sides, and 4 corners.”)

Describe a triangle, circle.

We will also work with Positional words.

SCIENCE-Seasons

Tuesday & Thursday are Evening Conferences  Reminder notes were sent home last week. Last evening I met with 8 families and I enjoyed sharing their child’s successes with their parents.

Wednesday is LIBRARY DAY.

Remember the Weekly Book Bags.  The kids are doing a great job with their home reading.  I am pleased with their reading and they are moving up in their reading levels.  They are each working on different strategies and applying them to reading.  I can tell when they read at home.  Thank you for your support at home.  It shows.  Now I know why my private flute teacher could always tell when I had practiced a lot during the week and when I wasn’t as faithful with daily practice!

WEATHER INFORMATION:

With the snowy weather upon us, students need to wear boots to school and carry their shoes in their backpack. I told them that it it their responsibility to put their shoes in the backpack at night.  (Parents often get blamed for “not putting my shoes in my backpack.”) They will take off their wet boots in the hall and change into their shoes.  If they wear wet shoes into the room, they track in wet snow on their shoes, and then sit in the wetness on the carpet.  Wet shoes on 24 kids creates a very wet carpet on which to sit!  YUK!  Even if there is only a little bit of snow on the pavement, students are to still wear their boots into school.  Several mentioned today that they did not have boots that fit.  I told them that they could go out this weekend and get a pair…perfect time.  It’s also a perfect time to practice tying shoes!

Enjoy the snow and all of the wonder it brings.
