Thursday update

Today I read a story to them from our weekly Anthology Book.  It’s an old favorite of the fables, stories that have a lesson.  The Turtle and the Rabbit.    Reading the story and discovering the lesson was the lesson.  However, we went on and made the characters and the retold the story, using our puppets!  Such involvement and I could really assess the retelling with each one.

Have them retell the story to you.  Ask them, “What’s the lesson we should learn from this fable?”

Math Game-Which Bug Will Win?

I didn’t get pictures of all of the kids but I managed to capture a few students playing a Math Game called “WHICH BUG WILL WIN?”  We will play the game again tomorrow and then I’ll send home a game “board.”  No directions needed…your child already knows how to play the game!

Needless to say, it was not quiet in here while they were playing the game.  So cute to see them so excited about MATH!

Tuesday

Monday, 11/27/17

Good Morning!  I hope you had a restful and reflective Thanksgiving.  I missed the kids and was ready to return to see them.  I asked them each Monday if they know what the week’s new letters, words, reading unit theme, math concepts, etc are and no one seems to know what’s on board for the week ahead.  Please take a minute and read my blog to them so that they know what’s coming up for the week.  It helps them be prepared and many times they will have a book or something that connects to one of the lessons.  They also LOVE coming in and telling me what we are going to be doing, especially on Mondays!  Thanks!

Take a look at how we began today…

We will have this honor all week.  The students go down to the office, say their name over the PA system and lead the entire school saying our Pledge of Allegiance and the Howard School Pledge.  Stay tuned to see tomorrow’s Pledge leaders.

Also, look for this Math HOME CONNECTION  to come home today.

Another Math HOME CONNECTION  will be coming home this Wednesday.

Have a good day.

Week of November 27, 2017

Another busy week when we return.  Here’s what’s coming…

READING-We will start Unit 3 TRANSPORTATION.  Week 1’s theme is “Getting Around Town.”

LETTERS-R  r  Q  q

WORDS-On  on   Ride  ride

WRITING-Informational Writing (about modes of Transportation), using details.  For example, I can see a ________ (shape)  on a _________(color)  ______________(vehicle).

I can see a triangle               on a red                       boat.

See how many different kinds of modes of transportation you can brainstorm with your student.  Even hot air balloons,  jet skis, submarines, are modes of transportation.

MATH-We’re stepping it up with Math.  Work with numbers from 0-30, how to recognize them, write them, tell which number comes next, play a Memory game with 3 x 5 cards with numbers from 15-30, etc.  There will be 3 Home Connections that come home next week,

SOCIAL STUDIES-We will move on to Wants.  Wants are different that Needs.

This is a season in which we are reminded of the many riches and blessing that we are given daily.  I give “THANKS” for my KINDERGARTENERS and their families.  May you continue to be blessed with good health and happiness.

This year I have been invited to attend the Thanksgiving Day Parade with my sister and brother-in-law.  My brother-in-law is one of the clowns in the parade!  I will be downtown at 5:00 am on Thanksgiving Day so that he can get into make-up, etc.  The clowns each have their own costume, designed and chosen by the clown, depending on how long they have been a clown in the parade.  For example,  a clown walking from 0-5 years gets a beginner costume that is one piece.  Clowns with 5-10 years get a 2 piece costume with 1/2 silver.  Clowns with 10-15 years have a costume that is 1/2 gold, other half is the colors and fabric of their choice.  Clowns with 15+ years get a cape, which comes in handy in those cold winds and those clowns with 20+ years get a blue cape and extra surprises. 🙂 Hat choices, colors, creations are another part of the process. Stay warm in your house and enjoy the parade!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I received this quote yesterday…

To survive as a teacher/parent you need 3 bones…

-a wishbone

-a backbone

-a funny bone.”

Scholastic Book Order

Last Friday I prepared the Scholastic Book Orders for the kids and, as my days go in here, I kept forgetting to pass it out to them.  So, it’s coming home today with them…the only glitch is that the order needs to be back in to me by tomorrow, due to NO SCHOOL FOR KINDERGARTEN ON FRIDAY.  Sorry about the overnight timeline.

Letter

The above letter is coming home today as in informational.   We do NOT have a student with lice in my class.  Just informational.
