Merry Christmas!

I have been thinking all day about my Kindergarteners and the excitement and family fun you are having today.  Enjoy every minute. Take lots of pictures.  Create memories and traditions..  I ‘ll hear all about the fun when we return in 2015!

My husband has had a rough time.  He was to have Open Heart Surgery but he became ill and was admitted to the hospital.  Surgery has been postponed.  He still remains in the hospital in CCU.  He was diagnosed with the flu but this went to his brain.  Thanks to Mrs. Balaka for carrying on in my absence.  I look forward to a happy and healthy 2015!!!

I miss my kids

Here is an example of what students have been working with this week.

Week of December 8, 2014

Only 2 weeks left before Christmas Break…time goes so quickly!

Our reading Unit is Food.

This week’s focus is called “What’s For Dinner?”

LETTER- C  c

WORD- Have  have

WRITING-Opinion writing

Have your student finish these sentences…

“For dinner I would have_________.”

“For lunch I would have _________.”

“For breakfast I would have_______.

The above sentences use this week’s word have.  They fit with our writing of having an opinion.  They also work with our Social Studies Unit of  Time Lines. (morning, afternoon, evening)  You might even try to have your student fill in the blank with a food that starts with “c,” which is our letter of the week. (See how sneaky I can be with my lesson plans!)

MATH-We’ll be working with the Number Line.  “Where will you end up if you start on 0 and take 2 steps forward?  “If you start on 4, how many steps will it take to get to 8?”  “If you are on 7, and take 5 steps back, where will you end up?”

Within the next 2 weeks I will be assessing the students on writing the numbers 0-30.  We have been practicing this.  Have them write the numbers by themselves.

SOCIAL STUDIES-I will also be assessing them on Needs/ Wants   Goods/ Services.  Have a conversation about those topics.  They are doing quite well with those units of study.

Looking ahead…

WED., -LATE START

-Library Day    Let’s see if EVERYONE can bring in their book this week!

-Holiday Boutique shopping   Notes went home today.  The students always enjoy going “shopping” on their own.

Our Holiday Party will be Thursday, Dec. 18.  Mrs. Luckey and Mrs. Hider will be contacting you if anything is needed.

On a personal note…my husband will be having surgery on Friday.  He will be in ICU for 5-6 days.  I plan to be here as much as I can.  My dear friend, and wonderful sub, Mrs. Balaka will be here for me.
