Meet the new FIRST GRADERS!

Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Miss Jordet stopped in to wish everyone a Happy Summer so I grabbed a photo opportunity.

Last year I fell in my classroom and broke my wrist.  I was out of school for 4 months and the year seemed to crawl.  This year I was not absent one day of school and the year seemed to fly!

Thank you all for a wonderful year.  They are ready for FIRST GRADE!  They have my email address and I told them that they need to write to me at least once this summer. 🙂

Enjoy your summer.  Please come back and see me!

Suckers :)

Yum… We had a busy day today, as many of them mentioned!

This morning we were busy with thinking of an animal, a place, and a thing that began with the beginning letters of our first and last name.  You should see a tri-fold piece of paper with flaps for work.

This afternoon we learned about SUCKERS!  Check it out!

What a fun day!

Please check backpacks.  I sent home a book (green) with papers I have collected all year.  Enjoy the walk through Kindergarten.  Notice their picture and their last picture.  Also check out how they wrote their name at the beginning of the year and today’s writing of their name.

The report card is also included and a note from me.

See you tomorrow. Dismissal is at 11:45.

Our Last Week in Kindergarten!

Well, it is here…our last week in Kindergarten.  We have had a wonderful year together.  This week I plan on some fun activities and enjoying time with each other.  Here are some reminders:

MONDAY-We had Field Day this am. Twice I tried to write this post before school but got interrupted.  I didn’t get to take many pictures of them at Field Day because I had a chipmunk creep into my room just as we went out for the games.  I cornered him in the bathroom while the students were outside participating in the games.  Fortunately the chipmunk preferred to be outside and escaped out our back door.  Just then our Pencil Pals from Woodhaven School District arrived to FINALLY meet us and spend some time together..  They joined us in the games and snack time (sno-cones and popcorn). We had a short story and then it was lunch for us and departure for the Pencil Pals.  Mr. Marks’ class and my classes have been Pencil Pals for about 25 years and we always enjoy it.  Unfortunately for us (and me) Mr. Marks will retire this year.. He told all of the students today that this day (the day that we finally meet and spend the day together) is his favorite day of the year.. So special!

TUESDAY-OUR CLASS PICNIC! Kindergarten families are welcome to join us for a picnic lunch.  Bring a lunch for your family and a blanket for sitting.  Our Picnic will go from 11:00-12:00 outside my recess door, on the porch and lawn.  If you’d like to bring an outside game, please do so.

WEDNESDAY-I will have the WHOLE DAY to myself with the students.  Please have them continue to bring their backpacks.  I will be sending home their Writing Journals, Math/Science Journals, robins, etc.

THURSDAY-Half Day  11:45 Dismissal  We will enjoy the morning together..  At 11:45 you will no longer have a Kindergartener–you will have a FIRST GRADER!!

Thank you for a terrific year.  I’m so pleased with their progresses and successes.  Thank you for all of your support on the home front.

See you in the morning!

Our Vegetable Garden

Today we spent the morning planting a Vegetable Garden.  The kids worked in pairs, each digging a hole, dropping in the plant and covering it up with dirt.  Selina was the Water Girl, pouring a cup of water into each hole before the plant was planted.  We planted TOMATOES, GREEN PEPPERS, AND CUCUMBERS.  Some of the plants that I bought had small vegetables already on them because I wanted the kids to see what vegetable will come from each blossom.  The kids were excited to show their garden to other teachers.

I heard some great comments as we were planting:

“I’ve never planted anything before.”

“This is so much fun.  Can’t I plant another one?”

“I’m going to come back tonight and watch them grow.”

“I love to dig in the dirt and plant things.”

Thank you to Mrs. Balestrieri, Madilyn’s mom, for the extra pair of hands.  🙂 🙂

Stop by and check out the garden.  I want to add a wooden sign.  I just need to find another piece of wood.  Mr. Elia has a good stake…I’ll find a piece for the cross part.  The I want the kids to paint ‘OUR GARDEN” on it.

Toads, habitats, butterfly hatching and releasing, tadpoles, catching roly-polys, etc…   Lots of things going on in here!  I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Looking ahead…

Friday-Donuts With Dad   The kids are excited about this opportunity.  We look forward to our Dad/Uncle visiting.

Monday-FIELD DAY   Have your child wear gym shoes and we’ll play some games outside.  This is a PTA sponsored event.

Tuesday-CLASS PICNIC  Bring a picnic lunch for your family, a blanket and come enjoy lunch with us.  We’ll eat from 11:00-12:00.

Thursday-Half day  AM only

Our Toad Proposal

Last week we became quite interested and attached to our visiting toads. We really wanted them to stay in our room. So, we wrote a proposal to Mrs. Anderson, Jason’s mom, defining our responsibilities, should she accept our proposal.  After over an hour of brainstorming, drafting, and editing, we finally had our proposal ready.  Mrs. Anderson came back to school and we presented Our Toad Proposal to her.pro

Good news!  She accepted our proposal so we had to get busy preparing the habitats.  Yesterday we spent all morning gathering the sand, dirt, rocks, sticks, leaves, and food (roly-polys) for our new classroom visitors.  We had job assignments and we have our “misters” for each day.  We must remember not to mist too much…otherwise we will make mud!

The 4 habitats are on the tables of each group in the room.  The kids are very excited and interested.  I hope the toads are happy too! 🙂
