Social Studies

SOCIAL STUDIES-Since we’ll be revealing some of the things at which we are good, we will be writing sentences about school, home, centers, etc. and things that we are doing in each place.

May 5, 2014

Happy May!  Where is this year going??

We begin our last Reading Unit.

Theme is “I Know  A Lot!”

Unit is Show What You Know

We will be sharing, exploring, and realizing some of the many things we have learned this year.

LETTERS-  J  j    Q  q

WORDS-With   with   My   my

My students have been writing and reading these words for a long time and are quite comfortable reading and writing them already.

WRITING-Questions and Answers (Informational)

COMPREHENSION-We’ll be discussing the most important part of a story or article.  You can do this at home with your child after you’ve shared a book together (or even a TV show).

MATH-We’ll be making something with beads.  🙂  Also, practice some skip counting by 5’s and 10’s with your child.  Give them a multiple of 5 or 10 and have them count on….”25″  they count on with “30, 35, 40,…”

We are excited about our time with Moms this Friday at 9:00 am.  It won’t be for very long…maybe until 9:45.

Enjoy the sunshine.

SCIENCE-We’ll finish Living and Non-Living things.

Science

Today for Science, we spent some with Speedy, our visiting turtle. We made some observations, then predictions, and then more observations. Mrs. Anderson helped with the lesson. The students enjoyed getting up close to Speedy. They checked out his markings, his eyes, nose, tail, and even counted his toenails! What great Scientists! Speedy is a Yellow Bellied Turtle- check him out online.
I tried to take some pictures of the observation groups, in between working with the rest. I know I didn’t get everyone’s picture but here are a few.
