Have your child empty out their backpack tonight…there is a permission slip for our field trip to Greenfield Village on May 15. There also is a notice about a student with Pink Eye in my class.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing and fun vacation. I was in sunny Florida and I thought there would be warmer temperatures at home when I returned. It’s still a bit chilly here but I know that Spring is on the way because I see beautiful flowers blooming and folks running and bicycling and walking!
Here we go on the last stretch of the year-WOW!
READING-We will finish up our Unit 9 about THE AMAZING CREATURES. Week 1 was about INSECTS. Last week was about the OCEAN. This week is about ANIMALS NOW AND THEN. Today we looked at a picture of a boy lying on a beach and looking at a sea turtle. I asked the students, “How is the boy like the sea turtle?” I was amazed at their thoughts! Here is a sampling…
Both boy and turtle have:
skin
breathe air
crawl
have a body, neck, arms, legs, eyes
like the beach
can swim
eat food
blood
bones
a spine and other observations
WRITING-I read them a story titled “If The Dinosaurs Came Back.” They really enjoyed it. It is FANTASY. So, you can imagine where I went with a discussion and writing topic.
MATH-We will be playing some games with addition and subtraction (and die). They love to roll the die. 🙂
SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES-We’ll be exploring fossils. It will go along with dinosaurs. We’ll also be studying turtles.
NEWS…Check the backpack Mom!
Also, Thursday, May 15, we will be taking an all-day Field Trip to Greenfield Village. Chaperones will be needed. This trip is only for Kindergarteners-no sibblings. Details will be coming home.
Have a great week.

When the kids came back from Art…well, have a look! They had so much fun finding the eggs. It was a joy watching them.

Potatoes are coming home today. The students had them in water and we have been charting the root growth progress.
Just dig a hole in the ground and add a bit of water.
Next, remove the potato from the baggie and place it in the hole.
Cover the potato with dirt and water it occasionally.
The students have been interested in watching this process. We read a great book titled “Tops and Bottoms.” When the potatoes have grown, what part of the potato plant will we eat? Top? Bottom? Middle?
Enjoy your potatoes!

You may have heard that our Playhouse has had a renovation as is now a restaurant! It is called “Pete’s Place–Where the food is ALL GOOD!” Today will be our Grand Opening. 🙂 The kids have really grabbed on to this idea and are sooo excited about this venture. A big thanks to Mrs. Wright, Trent’s mom, for providing “Guest Receipts” for our waitstaff! The kids have created a menu, complete with prices. I will have them use my calculators and cash registers to total the bills and to make change. Yesterday, Amira listed all of the students’ names, in case they wanted to make a reservation at Pete’s Place. Isabella made a sign last week for our big Pete to carry. It says “Eat at Pete’s! It’s all good.” We put a chef’s hat on him and draped a towel over his arm. Madilyn and Nour made a sign to hang around Pete’s neck saying, what else but “OPEN/CLOSED.” It now will be someone’s job to flip the sign at the start and end of the day.
