Today 2/4/14

Happy Birthday to our February Birthdays:

Nour  Feb. 2       Trent   Feb. 4

Remember Library Books due tomorrow.

We had an exciting time in Science today.  We made an airplane (aka ping-pong ball) fly!  Our air source was…ask your child.  🙂

We also Predicted if our “airplanes” would fly faster on the tile floor or on the carpet.  What is your prediction and why.   Good thinkers in here!

Here are a few of the scientists.  We didn’t have enough time for every person to have a turn but you can try this at home.  Also, try to see how far you can tip the air source before the plane falls!NatalieJason

Oops!

I for got to mention…

This week’s letters   D d  R r

This week’s words  For   you

We are also working with  “at”  and “an”  chunks.

We will celebrate St. Valentine’s Day on Friday, Feb., 14 with exchanging Valentines.  You may want to get started with writing names on the Valentines so here is a class list:

Fatimah   Maysoon   Deanna   Jason   Dean   Madilyn    Mustafa     Natalia   Tate

Adam     Nour    Natalie   Selina     Amira    Ahmad     Trent     Emerson    Matteo

This week…

READING-We continue our unit about Neighborhoods.

WRITING-We will focus on writing with nouns, instead of pronouns.  (“The policeman” instead of “he,”  “Mrs. _______” instead of “the teacher”)  Have them practice using nouns at home when they speak.  Also, have them NAME items (“couch”” potatoes”, “icicles”, instead of saying “it” “thing” “that.”

MATH-We will be giving clues to help us find attribute blocks in our room.  (color, size, thickness, shape)  We also will be giving clues about numbers on the number line.  (My number is 36 + 2   or 2 more than 36.)

SCIENCE-We had a great program today with a “Mad Scientist.”  Thank you PTA!

Hopefully temperatures will rise enough for us to have recess sometime this week.  🙂
