Thanks to all of you for taking time to meet with me for our conference time. We don’t get enough time to visit! Keep up your efforts at home with daily reading, some writing and math activities. The students are so engaged during the days and should have lots to share with you when they get home. Remember that they won’t always bring home something in their hands. Sometimes they will bring home new learning in their head and sometimes in their heart.
Have a good weekend!

Getting back to our week…
READING-We are continuing on with Transportation. This week we are reading, talking and writing about Traveling Near and Far. How would we travel? (boat, plane, jet ski, tow truck???) and where would we go?
WRITING- We are making Travel Posters.
Our letter is “I i” and our word is “Go go.” Most already can read and write so much more. They are doing well.
MATH-We continue with addition and subtraction story problems. You can do lots of these as you drive around on errands, putting away things in their room, etc. Make it real…make it fun!
Keep up the reading at home!

Last week was so busy I didn’t even have time to get a post out to you…sorry!
We ended last week with a GREAT science experience!!!
Previously in the week we had established things that float and things that sink. We spent a lot of time establishing our steps for conducting science experiments and we review the steps every time we conduct a science experiment. Here are our steps:
1. We ask questions. (Very important—get that brain working!)
2. We make a prediction. What do we think will happen? Why? How? Do we already know something that will help us with our predictions? (Prior knowledge and connections)
3. We do our experiment.
4. We look, see, observe what happened.
5. We decide what we learned from our experiment.
The students are very focused with these steps. Last week as we were reviewing our steps before an experiment, one of the students said, “These are like when you read a book to us. You always make us think of a question when you read the title and then we have to make a prediction about what might happen. Then after you read us the story you ask us what we learned. Amazing connections!!
I will post more later.

WOW…thanks for the offers to trim up the dominoes for me. I have 3 volunteers…I’ll catch others with a later project.
Thanks again!

Parents,
I could use some trimming of laminate on some dominoes that I made for the kids. Any volunteers?

Thank you to Mrs. Balestrieri for coordinating the treats for our Halloween Party and to all parents who sent in paper products and goodies. Although the rain may have been damp outside, no spirits were dampened in my room. WE had a great time!

November has arrived and we continue to move along. First report card marking will end this week. Parent Teacher Conferences will be November 14, 20, and 21 and I look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you at that time. I will send home a reminder of your time slot.
Congratulations to our BOOK-IT readers who read for 20 minutes every night and turned in their calendar for a free pizza coupon! Good job readers and you showed great responsibility by completing your calendar and turning it in on time! (Fits right in with our Social Studies unit on responsibility and rules!) Parents, thanks for your support.
My November Students of the Month are Jason Anderson and Fatimah Alharbi. Congratulations!
Important this week…
TUESDAY 11-5 NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS District Professional Development for all teachers
WEDNESDAY-Library Book due Please have your child (responsibility) pack her/his book the night before so they can check out a new one.
FRIDAY 1-8 Half Day for students 11:45 Dismissal End of first card marking
Here is a peek at our week…
READING-We will finish our Unit about Friends. Please continue to listen to your child read at home. It is so important to help them read with accuracy and fluency. In addition, it does wonders for their confidence. Continue to work with PREDICTING when you are reading with your child. Look for clues that can predict what will come next or what will happen at the end of a story. I asked the students to predict what color Mr. Denison would wear to school last Friday. They predicted green. When he walked in wearing green, I asked them what clues they had used to make their predictions? Good thinkers, Kindergarteners!
WRITING-This week’s lesson focuses on writing lists. You can allow your child to really be involved with writing lists at home. Let them write a few grocery items down is a list. Or have them write a list of 3 or 4 things they need to do this week. Many students can stretch out a whole word spelling it! If not, they can at least get the beginning and ending sounds and letters. Please make sure to let them say/stretch the word. Don’t jump in and make the sounds for them…they need to hear the sounds themselves. Then they will connect the letters that goes with the sounds.
MATH-We will continue with number recognition and playing a game with Dominoes. We will also work with more than, less than, with a game called Monster Squeeze!
SOCIAL STUDIES-This week we will extend our “Friends” unit to the community. We will read a non-fiction article about Helping Hands. How can we help friends in our community? How can we be responsible, thoughtful of others, kind?
SCIENCE-Earth Science
Of course, READ TO SELF and READ TO SOMEONE is included every day. Their stamina for reading and staying focused with their individual reading is increasing! They are proud of it too!
Have a great week and remember to vote on Tuesday!
