Halloween Celebration

Dear Parents,

As you may know, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 is Halloween.  We will celebrate Halloween (at school) on Friday, October 27, 2017,  in the afternoon.  If they choose to, the first grade students may bring their Halloween costumes to school on that day.  Your child may bring their costume in a bag labeled with their name.  They will be allowed to change into their costumes in the afternoon, after lunch.

Costumes need to be bathroom accessible – easy for your child to manage on their own.  Leave any accessories such as wands, swords, weapons, etc. at home.  No masks or scary makeup!

If your child would like to bring a special treat to share with their 20 classmates, please feel free to do so.  Make sure the treats are individually wrapped or packaged.  Thank you for all your help and support!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

PTA Reflections Contest

PTA Reflections Contest:  Let’s make this OUR Year!!!!

Every year the National PTA Council sponsors a contest for students.  They say, “PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 Theme: Within Reach.

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. Celebrate arts learning in your school community with Reflections.

National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.”

The Art Department participates from Snow, but in the past there have been few to zero participants in most categories.  This year we are hoping students will catch the bug and find a category they are interested in AND create something they will submit.

Each classroom has a handout on the specifics for the categories:  Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.  The information is also posted by the Art Room and in the Lobby.

Please encourage your children to find something of interest and be creative.  If you have questions please see or email Mrs. Reagan Davis, Snow Reflections Chairperson, davis.reagan@gmail.com , or Ms. Jo Anne Zechar, zecharj@dearbornschools.org.

ALL entries are due to Ms. Zechar by the end of the day, Tuesday, November 21!!!!

PTA Meeting and Activities

PTA will be meeting on Thursday, October 5.    The meeting will be held in the Media Center at 6 pm.  All parents are encouraged to join the PTA and attend the meetings.  They will be hosting a book bingo this Friday, and a Skate Night on October 18. Your help with these activities would be greatly appreciated!

Field Trip News

We have reserved the Detroit Science Center on November 2nd for our first field trip. A permission slip will be going home sometime in the next week and a half.  If you are planning to chaperone, please be sure that your background check is up to date in the office.  Due to the large number of First Grade students, all seats on the bus will be filled.  Parents will need to drive or car pool to the center and no siblings are allowed to attend.
