As our new week begins once again, I would like to thank all of my families for working so very hard to adjust to the new requirements of last week! We begin each week fresh with new assignments. Remember to look at the assignment chart each Monday, and the 5 items that I will be monitoring to get a Meeting grade for the week. I have reduced the time on I-Ready this week from 25 minutes a day to 15 minutes a day. If there are problems getting the weekly assignments done, do as much as you can or contact me so I can adjust the work for your child or assist you in any way. We will continue to work together to keep learning alive in your child.
This week there will be 5 items that need to be done to get a Meeting Grade for the week. The deadline for the completion of the below items is Saturday, May 2.
- I Ready (75 minutes a week) . I will monitor the time online.
- Zearn math (2-3 lessons a week). I will monitor the lessons online.
- Epic reading ( 15 minutes a day) This time includes any books that I assign. The assigned books or videos can be found in the mailbox at the top of the Epic home page. I will monitor the books read and time spent reading online.

List 2: chowder, powder, shower, flower, growl, frown, brown, crown, tower, power
Epic Reading: www.getepic.com is the reading site I am using to assure that all of my students have access to a variety of good fit books to read and I can assign books that go along with the Science or Social Studies curriculum. It is important that they spend 15 minutes a day reading on this site. If you haven’t logged into this site yet, use the Class code qyz4789. I have noticed that many students begin to read a book, but do not read to the end of it to complete the book, especially the books that I have assigned! At the end of each book you must click on finish book to receive a red stamp of completion for that book. Flipping through the book is not reading the book! You may read other books at your house, this is always encouraged, however, all children must log into Epic and read 15 minutes a day. This is the only way, at this time, that I can be assured that my students are reading.
Readworks: www.Readworks.com is new this week. Slater’s class code is: U76N5X and our password is 1234. We will use this site for short articles to help the students gather ideas for their writing.
Social Studies: The Michigan Open Book Project is a site we can use to present Social Studies lessons in a book form. This week we will be doing some basic map studies. I have also assigned some books about maps in your child’s Epic mailbox found on the home page at the top. There are no assignments to turn in this week for Social Studies.
Reading Achievements: Our class has read a total of 445 books on Epic. My students have read for 49.2 hours since we began using this site on March 25th! (This does not include the 50 educational videos watched and the many books flipped through but not completed!). Our top reader is Adam, with a total of 81 books completed! There is still a tie this week for second, Max and Faisal have both read a total of 48 books. Violet is in third place with 47 books read. Gretchen is fourth with 42 books read! Congratulations to everyone and keep on reading!
