Welcome back to week 5. I hope you all had a fun filled “Spring Break” and now you are ready for another week filled with learning fun! I will be monitoring your work again every day this week, so work hard and meet your goals! Habit 3 tells us to Put First Things First. This means we work first, then we play! Try to keep some routines each day. Work hard and then be sure to take some breaks to play and relax!
SNOW SCHOOL LEARNING GOALS:
We still want our students to continue learning at home and we are asking our families to do the following:
1. – I-Ready for a minimum of 2 hours per week.
2. –Read “good fit ” books (K-2) 20 minutes daily. If you are running out of books in your book bag visit the scholastic site for 10 new books per week! This week they have added play activities for you to try out. Be sure to log them into your logs! Scholastic books: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html
3. -At least 1 lesson per day on Zearn (math)
Don’t forget about Epic reading. There are so many great books there to read, and it logs them in for you! But remember to read each page, don’t just flip pages! When you get to the end of the book you need to read to the last page and press Finish Book and sometimes you need to complete a short comprehension quiz if one is given. Many of you are flipping pages but not completing the books. So far our class has read and completed 102 books on this site! I still have 6 families that have not accepted my invitation to join this reading club site. Please give it a try!
New This Week:
Here is something new to explore this week. It is called Brain Pop (grades 3-8), or Brain Pop Jr. (grades K-3) Just use the link below and have your parents fill out the free home access form. You can explore Science, Social Studies, Math and even Reading and Health activities!

Week 27 Spelling Words:
This week the pattern is words ending in -ck. Children may choose which list they want to study this week. Let them study any way they wish. Let them be creative! Use markers, colored pencils, drawings, make their own word search puzzles, flash cards and even use chalk to practice on the sidewalk! Give them the test on Friday. Record and keep everything in a folder. The Bonus words are: black, duck, sock, neck, block
List 1: truck peck clock back sick
List 2: struck track knock check thick
Dolch sight words: pick kind full warm done
I hope you will continue learning on –Mystery Science: https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning
Please keep on doing the following:
Writing in your journal with the ideas given to you a few weeks ago.
GoNoodle for movement and exercise and a little fun!
Please don’t forget Moby Max. Only 4 students have tried it. Moby Max can be accessed through the Dearborn Public Schools student portal, just like I-Ready. Click on CLEVER and look for the bright green box with a whale. This site contains both language arts and math activities. This is only a suggestion for students who complete their I-ready and Zearn requirements for the week and want to take an adventure and try some new learning. I will also receive each child’s time spent on these activities and I will record it in their learning plan progress report.
I hope your are all staying healthy and safe. Remember all our happy times together in First Grade! I am hopeful that we will see each other soon!
Love,
Mrs. Slater
