Please review this document explaining the new Read By 3rd Grade Law.
Month: January 2020
Focus for Week of 1/27/20
Reading: Student will learn to recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
Math: Students will add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations. They will add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds.
Students will mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900. They will explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.1
Writing: Students will understand how to write an opinion paper. They will work on the steps in the writing process from drafting, revising, editing to publishing.
Science: Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter. They will learn that different kinds of matter exist and many of them can be either solid or liquid, depending on temperature. Students will learn that matter can be described and classified by its observable properties A great variety of objects can be built up from a small set of pieces.
Social Studies: Students will use components of culture (e.g., foods, language, religion, traditions) to describe diversity in the local community.
