Good Morning! (or evening if you are reading this as I post Sunday evening) This week will be a little different. I think I’ve worked out most of the kinks in this whole online learning situation we are becoming (not so) accustomed to. lol. (I sure miss school and my kiddos!!!)
On google classroom, there is now a to do list slide. I am hoping this will be helpful in keeping the kids organized. I will post this every Monday with the week’s activities. There is also a suggested schedule for you (parents) to use for daily work.
There is only one readworks assignment this week because the kids are asked to read 3 articles for their writing assignment. They need to be closely read so they can be used for evidence in their writing.
For math – most kids finished their Zearn Lessons last week, which is fabulous. There is an Exit Ticket posted on classroom, however, before they do the Exit Ticket assignment, I ask that they please watch the videos I made as a review. This is as similar to reviews in class that I could get. If you have a printer, I also included a copy of the review sheets I go over in the video.
As far as science and social studies go – we have been talking about it as a building, and as of now, we will be posting readings that have to do with science and social studies. This week, the articles in the writing assignment are science related. I’ll be posting videos I think the kids should watch in BrainPOP as well.
April
Ok – we are back from Spring Break! Yesterday I had a lot of action and activity on Classroom, that was great!
I want to try to incorporate MobyMax into our learning. It has really great resources for all subjects. Please ask your child to log in. They will be prompted to do a quick pre-assessment for math and reading, I believe. They just need to do their best. 🙂
Math: We will work on volume, which is module 5 on Zearn. I have everyone set up for Module 5 and the goal is to complete lessons 1 – 7 this week.
Reading: We will do 3 ReadWorks assignments each week from now on. One informational, fiction, and poetry. Please continue to read your DEAR books for enjoyment as well!
Writing: There is an opinion assignment on classroom about if kids should get paid to do chores. They need to complete their blueprint (this is where they organize their thoughts) and put it into a 5 paragraph essay, using information from the article(s) as evidence. This is due Friday.
Science: We will continue talking about life science, focusing on ecosystems.
Social studies: Revolution (Ms Wilson with more info)
Amazon Audible
Amazon today canceled the subscription of books and audio stories for children and students of all ages as long as schools are closed. Kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids.
All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet using the following link https://stories.audible.com/start-listen.
math assignment on classroom
There is an adding and subtracting fractions assignment posted on classroom. You can either print it out or copy the questions onto a sheet of paper. Please take a pic and attach to the assignment for me to check it out!
Google Classroom
Most of our remote learning will take place on google classroom. Unfortunately, Class Dojo seems to be overloaded and isn’t consistently allowing me to go on to check messages.
Please continue to check google classroom for assignments and updates. I will also be posting video explanations of what do expect.

Week at a glance:
Math – we are adding/subtracting and multiplying decimals. Today it came to my attention that a lot of the class needs extra practice with multiplication facts. As stated in a previous post, please have your kids do xtramath.org as practice for fluency, they will also be getting worksheets coming home to help practice doing their facts “flash fast.” This will be extremely helpful as we get into more complicated math problems.
Reading – we are finishing up our main idea and details unit. They will take their post test this week. Next we will summarize and make inferences.
Social studies – they will take their quiz this week for government.
Science – we will finish up our unit on matter and particles. I was a week ahead in my mind, and our pennies experiment will be *next* week, not this week!
