Ecosystem Projects

The students created Ecosystems of their choice. They added living and non-living things to their ecosystem, then modified them to add all parts of a food chain/web. Last, they used an overlay to mark the different parts of the ecosystem; producers, consumers, second consumers, decomposers, and populations.

October 21

Dear Parents and Families,

It’s the last week of MEAP! This week we will have our math MEAP on Tuesday, and the Writing Day 2 on Wednesday. Please be sure to have your child go to bed early and to eat a good, healthy breakfast.

In Math this week, we will be starting Data and graphing. We will be talking about maximum, minimum, range, mode, and median.

In Language Arts, we will be starting a writing unit about comparing and contrasting. By the end of this unit, the students will be writing a two or three paragraph essay to compare and contrast two things.

In science, we are continuing our Ecosystem Projects in class. They are looking great! I can’t wait to hang them up and let you see them at Parent/Teacher conferences.

In social studies, we will continue working on Map Skills in geography.

Thank you, Have a great week!

October 7

Dear Parents and Families,

MEAP week is here! All of our practice and hard work will be put into use starting tomorrow, October 8. Please stress to your child that all of the tests are about things they learned in 3rd grade. They know all of the material and have used test taking strategies on the practice assignments.

Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and is getting at least 9-10 hours of sleep each night! This is both for testing days as well as every day. A well-rested child will be a better learner all year long!

Even though we have MEAP this week, we do have to finish our Unit 1 in math, which means a test this week. It will not be long. It will cover lines and polygons. We will practice and have the exam on Wednesday or Thursday.

In science, we will be doing a project about ecosystems in class, which will be continued on through next week.

In social studies, we will be starting map skills. This includes cardinal directions, and latitude and longitude.

We won’t be adding too much new information to Language Arts this week because of MEAP testing. The tests will be in Reading and Writing, so I don’t want to overwhelm the kids with new information as they are testing.

Thank you, Have a great week!

Mrs. Shupe
