Well, we can officially say we are no longer beginning the year, we’re in full force now! Let’s find out what’s going on this week.
Language Arts: Last week, we did the district writing prompt assessment. Your child will find out his/her score this week and make a goal for the next assessment. Please ask them about their scores to find out what they’re working on in writing. We will be writing personal narratives this week, and applying the skills from our writing goals into our stories.
In Reading, we will continue working in our Strategy Groups. In addition, we are doing a group project about tall tales. Students will show their knowledge in basic comprehension, visualizing, inferencing, and summarizing. This is also a test in collaborating, which can be a hard thing to do!
Math: This is our last week of geometry. This week we will do our study guide to prepare for the test which will be Thursday or Friday, depending on how everyone does with the study guide. We also took our first computation check test. Lots of students mastered their goal and moved to the next computation skill. Way to go, kids!
Science: Sadly we did not have time to do a whole group STEAM challenge because we were making Growth Mindset Monsters. (I’ll post pictures this week!) This week, we will be doing a STEAM challenge, and we will also be continuing our unit on Matter. We will dig deeper into the states of matter and how to change from one state to another, and we will show evidence and reasons for why certain things are chosen for specific jobs based on their physical properties.
Social Studies: They are continuing on with their geography unit with Mrs. Brady.
Some social skills we are working on this week are giving constructive criticism and waiting your turn.
